a "Touching China 2022 Person of the Year"

It is reported that "Touching China 2022 Person of the Year" is a spiritual brand program hosted by the "Touching China" production team of China Media Group. Each year, through various voting methods nationwide, it selects ten individuals and teams whose stories are deeply moving and inspiring, spreading positive energy and promoting social integrity. It enjoys an excellent reputation among viewers and has been hailed by the media as "the annual spiritual epic of the Chinese people."

Qian Qihu, male, Han ethnicity, a native of Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, was born in October 1937. He is a protective engineering expert, military engineering expert, and educator, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a recipient of the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award, a recipient of the "August 1 Medal," a "National Model of Dedication and Devotion" among the 7th National Moral Models, an advisor to the Science and Technology Committee of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, and honorary president of East China University of Technology.

At the age of 7, his father told him on his deathbed to "achieve something great," and he kept this firmly in mind. Over more than sixty years, he participated in many major national defense projects. He led the formulation of China's first urban civil air defense protection grade standards, created China's protective engineering talent training system, and solved a series of key technical challenges in engineering protection against nuclear and conventional weapons. As of 2022, he had sponsored 584 students in financial difficulty, donating his academician allowance, award bonuses, salary, and other funds to charitable causes totaling more than 18 million yuan. Mr. Qian said, "Devoting my heart and effort to the safety of the country and the people is worthwhile."

In 2001, the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government formally appointed Academician Qian Qihu as honorary president of East China University of Technology. For more than 20 years, Academician Qian Qihu has cared about the university's development, regularly returning to give lectures and conduct research, and guiding key work such as teaching and research, discipline development, and service to society. In 2022, he established the country's first "Qian Qihu Class," "Qian Qihu Scholarship," and "Qian Qihu Lecture Forum" at East China University of Technology, making outstanding contributions to the university's construction as a distinctive high-level university that is "industry-leading, domestically first-class, and internationally renowned."
