12月9日上午10时，新建襄阳至荆门高速铁路站前工程全线首根桩基开工仪式在中铁十五局襄荆铁路XJZQ-4标施工现场举办。随着炫丽焰火和旋挖钻机的缓缓启动，襄荆铁路全线首根桩基正式开钻，标志着该项目转入实质性主体工程施工阶段。

襄阳至荆门高速铁路是呼南高铁的重要组成部分，正线全长116公里，全线设襄阳东站、宜城北站、双河站、荆门西站4座车站，线路北接郑渝高铁、武汉至十堰高铁，南接在建的沿江高铁武汉至宜昌段及荆门至荆州高铁，是我国“八纵八横”高铁网呼和浩特至南宁通道的重要组成部分。
中铁十五局承建的襄荆铁路XJZQ-4标项目，全长29.11公里。此次开钻的桩基是襄荆高铁跨G347国道特大桥489根桩基之一，整座大桥长2259.46米，全桥基础均采用钻孔灌注桩群桩+承台形式，桩基总长10228.5米。
