01. Diligent Study Builds Knowledge

Having long stood fast on the front line, Yan Huanyu, as a section chief, knows well how fast XCMG Foundation's construction machinery products are updated. If he did not study diligently and accumulate knowledge and experience, it would be hard for him to keep pace with the company's development. He therefore spends almost all his spare time delving into his work, and regards every new-product trial production as an excellent opportunity to learn and hone his skills.

Learning from books and gaining insight through practice, Yan Huanyu on the one hand actively and humbly seeks advice from technical personnel, and on the other turns the knowledge he acquires into what his work requires, flexibly applying it in practice. His workshop produces many product types and is also a new-product trial production workshop. During assembly, some oversized and overweight materials are difficult to assemble, so he took the initiative to devise solutions and made more than 30 pieces of tooling for production, including hydraulic winches, power head assembly fixtures, drill mast assembly fixtures, and wire rope placement racks.

Long-term hands-on practice has worn thick calluses all over his hands, which have become his proud "medals of honor."

With the aid of this tooling, not only are labor costs reduced and work efficiency improved, but assembly safety is further enhanced. This multifaceted training has also made Yan Huanyu a true all-rounder combining assembly, commissioning, repair, and maintenance, and the nickname "Versatile Yan" has spread throughout the section.

02. Innovation Seeks Breakthroughs

"As long as you are willing to use your head, there are always more solutions than difficulties!" As the "go-to expert" for water well drilling production and assembly, from the smallest-tonnage XSL160 to the assembly of the domestically largest modular drilling rig XSM1800, Yan Huanyu has not only participated deeply but also shouldered the main responsibility for tackling tough assembly challenges.

This year, XCMG's first and also China's largest modular drilling rig, the XSM1800, completed design and entered first trial production. Faced with problems of the all-new product—the drill mast luffing pin shaft could not be installed and the top drive support shaft had too small a chamfer—everyone seemed at a loss and did not know where to start.

"What is there to fear? If we don't do it, the XSM1800 will forever remain a drawing!" Yan Huanyu took the lead by example. Under his leadership, an on-site trial production team was formed ad hoc. At night he stayed up studying drawings and assembly processes; by day he led the team to explore assembly. From the first prototype to fine-tuning, and then step-by-step commissioning to optimal performance, he led everyone to free their minds and practice boldly, ultimately turning the product from a design drawing into a super machine rolling off the line.

03. Conviction Triumphs Over Family Ties

All along, Yan Huanyu has felt deep guilt toward his wife and son. During the critical delivery period of the domestically largest modular drilling rig, he led a youth commando team that gave up rest and worked continuously. All personnel worked day and night to rush progress, with per capita working hours exceeding 12 hours a day. Often, when he left home in the morning, his son was still asleep, and when he returned at night, his wife and son were already fast asleep.

One noon, Yan Huanyu was dining in the company cafeteria when his wife called via video, saying that their son, who had not seen him for several days, missed him. On the screen was a portrait of the family of three drawn by his son, with the words "Dad, I love you, keep it up!" At that moment, Yan Huanyu finally could not hold back his tears. In them were guilt, warmth, happiness, and gratitude, as well as a profound family affection and firm conviction.
