On December 5, the cut-and-cover section 2 retaining structure works of the Civil Works Zone 7 of the Fangcun-Baiyun Intercity Railway Project, undertaken by Qiancheng Pile Engineering, officially commenced, with a simple yet solemn groundbreaking ceremony held on site.

Xu Shuping, Commander of the Civil Works Zone 7 of the Fangcun-Baiyun Intercity Railway Project of the general contractor China Construction Fourth Engineering Division, and Li Ying, Deputy Manager, along with Wu Jinyuan, Deputy Chief Supervisor of the supervision party, Zhou Yuling, Supervision Team Leader, and Wu Lewen, Special Supervisor, were present to offer congratulations. Niu Wenkui, Project Manager of the company's Fangcun-Baiyun Intercity Railway Zone 8, and all members of the cut-and-cover section 2 project team of Zone 7 witnessed the commencement moment together.

The ceremony was presided over by Tian Qing, Deputy Project Manager and Chief Engineer. Commander Xu Shuping delivered a speech on behalf of the general contractor, congratulating the project on its official commencement as scheduled despite the impact of the epidemic, expressing gratitude for the hard work of the company's project team during the commencement preparations, and hoping that both teams will take project construction as a bond, cooperate sincerely and pursue win-win outcomes, jointly promoting the steady progress and early completion of the project, and laying a solid foundation for enhancing mutual consensus and deepening cooperation.

Deputy Chief Supervisor Wu Jinyuan delivered a speech on behalf of the supervision party, putting forward specific requirements for the safety, quality and process management of project construction, and hoping that the project team will ensure both epidemic prevention and construction, and promote the smooth, safe and successful completion of the project.

On behalf of the company's project team, Tian Qing made a statement, expressing gratitude to the leaders of the general contractor, supervision party and other parties for their close guidance and strong support during the project commencement preparations. He stated that he will lead the project team to uphold the striving spirit of "starting work means going all out," overcome difficulties and fulfill responsibilities, fully carry forward the "iron army" style of the Qiancheng project team, and submit a satisfactory answer with excellent construction performance, setting up another model project for both parties in South China and living up to the great trust of the company and the general contractor.

At 14:18, following Commander Xu Shuping's order "The auspicious hour has arrived, break ground and start work," the site roared with machinery and ceremonial salutes, and the project officially began construction, setting off a surge of vigorous work.

It is reported that the cut-and-cover section 2 of Zone 7 of the Fangcun-Baiyun Intercity Railway is located on the west side of Gangweibei Liu Street. It is a one-story underground cut-and-cover section with a length of 260.737 m, a foundation pit width of 33.4 m to 54.2 m, and a base slab burial depth of 17.35 m to 8.93 m (of which the Phase I foundation pit is 87.5 m long, 54.2 m to 41.8 m wide, and the foundation pit excavation depth is 17.35 m to 13.1 m). The cut-and-cover sequential construction method is adopted, and the retaining structure uses 0.8 m thick diaphragm walls plus internal bracing. The embedment depth of the diaphragm walls shall in principle be no less than 1 m after passing through the sand layer and entering the impermeable layer, and the embedment depth at the small-chainage end shall be no less than 15 m, while the embedment depth at the standard section and the large-chainage end shall be no less than 13 m (construction may only proceed after the embedment depth is further designed based on the results of advanced drilling). Φ1200 or Φ1000 bored cast-in-place piles are installed in the foundation pit as king post piles and uplift piles.

The Fangcun-Baiyun Intercity Railway is an important part of the intercity railway construction plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the opening work of China State Construction's entry into the Guangzhou metro market, and the first project in which Qiancheng Pile Engineering cooperates with China State Construction on the Fangcun-Baiyun Intercity Railway.
