Previously, during the construction of the Xuzhou East Third Ring Elevated Expressway project, only large rotary drilling rigs could be used, and no domestic product was up to the task. Upon learning of this, XCMG Foundation immediately decided to independently develop a large-tonnage rotary drilling rig of more than 40 tonne-meters. Ultimately, overcoming multiple difficulties including foreign technological blockades, the R&D team, after more than 60 days and nights of exploration, successfully developed the XR460D, which became the largest-tonnage rotary drilling rig with a self-manufactured chassis in Asia at that time.

A customer once proposed customizing two large-tonnage rotary drilling rigs, with a technical content beyond the reality of the traditional piling machinery industry. After XCMG Foundation accepted the order, the company's R&D personnel devoted themselves fully, and half a year later completed the design and production of the product. The hole depth and hole diameter reached the highest levels at that time, making it the "leader" among similar models.
