They say this winter will be colder than usual

Hailed as the coldest winter in history

To keep your beloved machine—the rotary drilling rig

Starting at the first pull

Please pay attention to the following maintenance tips

✬ After completing work, thoroughly clean off all water, snow, and mud adhering to wires, wire connectors, switches or sensors, and the covers of these parts. If these are not removed, the moisture in them will freeze, causing the machine to malfunction the next time it is used and potentially leading to unexpected failures.

✬ Carry out thorough preheating. Before operating the control levers, if the machine is not thoroughly preheated, its response will be sluggish, which may cause unexpected accidents.

✬ Operate each control lever to circulate the hydraulic oil in the hydraulic system (raise the system pressure to the system set pressure, then release the pressure and return the oil to the hydraulic tank) to warm up the hydraulic oil. This ensures good machine response and prevents malfunctions.

Winter maintenance and care of the rotary drilling rig engine fuel system:

❊ Choose diesel with a low pour point and good fluidity. At low temperatures, fuel viscosity increases and fluidity deteriorates. The freezing point of diesel should be 3–5°C lower than the lowest ambient temperature to ensure it does not solidify at the lowest temperature. Generally, in winter, No. 0 light diesel can be used in areas south of the Yangtze River; No. -20 light diesel in severe winter in areas north of the Yangtze River; and No. -35 light diesel in severe winter areas such as Northeast, Northwest, and North China.

❆ The winter climate is dry, especially in the north where wind and sand are heavy, so maintenance of the air filter, fuel tank, and diesel coarse and fine filters should be strengthened to prevent dust from contaminating the filter elements and causing reduced engine power and oil contamination.

❆ In severe cold areas, diesel can also be preheated during engine operation. There are two main methods for diesel preheating: first, exhaust gas preheating, which involves running a pipe from the engine exhaust pipe through the diesel tank to heat the diesel using exhaust waste heat; second, circulating water preheating, which involves running a pipe from the engine circulating water through the diesel tank, or using a jacketed tank with oil in the inner layer and circulating water in the outer layer to heat the diesel. When using diesel preheating, first start the engine with low-pour-point diesel, then switch to high-pour-point diesel once the preheated diesel flows out; before shutting down, switch back to low-pour-point diesel and run for 10–20 min to ensure the high-pour-point diesel in the fuel system is fully consumed, preventing the diesel from solidifying after shutdown and blocking the fuel passages.
