据悉，连接智利和阿根廷、耗资 16 亿美元的 Las Lenas 隧道的可行性研究已近完成。
该工程为双管公路隧道，全长11.6km，其中智利一侧2.6km，阿根廷一侧9km，它的设计平均坡度为 3%，海拔约2,040m。单条隧道高5.1m，车道宽7.3m，两侧各有宽1m的人行道。考虑到该隧道的截面几何形状与曲线半径，该隧道目前计划采用新奥法施工。
该隧道将由两国联合出资兴建，然而，在预期的10年工期开始前，还有数年的准备工作，目前工程的详细方案、环境设计等工作尚未开始。除了隧道外，两国都需要新建公路——阿根廷有60km新公路，智利有13km。
