With the completion of pouring for the last engineering pile of the outpatient building, the Nanshan Hospital reconstruction and expansion project—the largest general hospital complex in western Shenzhen—has finished all pile foundation construction. This marks the full completion of nearly 600,000 square meters of pile foundation work, laying a solid foundation for the hospital's scheduled opening. It is reported that the international clinic building and the infectious disease building have been delivered for use, and the main structure of Phase II has been fully topped out.

Located at the intersection of Nanshan Avenue and Taoyuan Road, Nanshan Hospital is a modern, information-based, intelligent large Class A tertiary hospital integrating medical emergency care, teaching and scientific research. Upon completion, the project will have 2,500 beds, expandable to 3,000, with a daily outpatient capacity of 12,000 people. As the largest and strongest regional general hospital in western Shenzhen, it will greatly alleviate the difficulty of accessing medical care in the area.

The project has a total construction area of 592,034 square meters, with up to 23 floors above ground and 3 floors underground. The pile foundation works involved pouring 567 engineering piles, 128 column piles and 236 secant piles.

It is understood that a large number of old foundations from the original hospital buildings within the construction area affected the project schedule to some extent. "The old foundations were extremely difficult to demolish, and ordinary impact breaking had almost no effect. After repeated trials, we finally decided to adopt static cracking measures," said Fu Jin, the on-site project manager. "Next, the project will accelerate earthwork excavation and internal bracing construction, and continue to ensure the smooth completion of milestone targets."

As an emergency epidemic prevention hospital in western Shenzhen, Nanshan Hospital also bears responsibility for regional epidemic control. To meet the hospital's epidemic prevention needs, young Party member volunteers on the project "took the initiative" and carried out the "I do practical things for the masses" practice, setting up double-layer fencing on the original construction site exclusively for the hospital's independent fever clinic. "Our project must not only ensure site safety but also guarantee the safety of patients," said Fu Zhiwei, the project manager. "By setting up a two-way pedestrian walkway and separately isolating the passage between the hospital and the fever clinic, construction roads and patient access routes are kept separate, blocking the possibility of virus transmission." It is reported that during the epidemic, the project continuously provided venue support for the hospital's nucleic acid sampling, helping Shenzhen win the protracted battle against the epidemic.
