10月20日下午四点，芜湖轨道交通一号线提前结束试乘，即将迎来开通运营。
芜湖市是全国首个以跨座式单轨交通系统为主干线路的城市。芜湖轨道交通1、2号线一期项目，是芜湖市城市建设有史以来投资规模最大的基础设施项目，也是安徽省迄今为止单体最大的PPP项目。
芜湖市轨道交通1号线、2号线一期工程总长46.2公里、设站36座。其中1号线全长约30公里，沿城市南北向敷设，共设高架站25座。
芜湖轨道交通即将投入运行，标志着芜湖跨入轨道交通新时代，极大提升了城市功能和品质，增强了城市综合竞争力，成为芜湖又一张靓丽的交通景观名片，对芜湖加快建设省域副中心城市和长三角具有重要影响力的现代化大城市具有重要意义。
