On October 9, at the construction site on Tinghong Road in Jiangnan District, Nanning, the Liucun Tunnel on the Nanchong Railway broke through as the massive cutterhead of the "Zhuangmei" shield machine emerged from the rock, marking a breakthrough in the new Nanchong Railway project.

According to Chen Jianfu, project manager of the Liucun Tunnel on the Nanchong Railway under China Railway 14th Bureau Group, the tunnel has a total length of 5,725 meters and is designed as a single-tube, double-track tunnel. It is being constructed using a slurry shield machine with an excavation diameter of 12.86 meters. The tunnel passes beneath multiple railways, municipal roads, building complexes, and underground pipelines. Due to its large excavation cross-section, long distance, and high risk of tunneling through sandstone strata, it is one of the most difficult tunnels in the Nanchong Railway construction.

The Nanchong Railway is an important transport infrastructure project under the Belt and Road Initiative and the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. With a total length of 119.3 kilometers and a designed operating speed of 250 kilometers per hour, it will shorten the travel time between Nanning and Chongzuo from the current 2 hours to half an hour upon completion.

Up to now, the entire Nanchong Railway has entered the track-laying phase, with a total track-laying mileage (including station tracks) of about 249 kilometers, of which 49 kilometers (19.68%) has been completed. The post-station works at Chongzuo South Station and Fusui South Station have completed the main structure and entered the construction phase for roof steel structures and decoration.
