9月17日下午，从北京市交通委获悉，按照北京市轨道交通建设运营计划，地铁8号线剩余段将于今年底开通，昌平线南延段将于明年底开通。届时，地铁8号线将在前门站与2号线实现换乘，昌平线南延将在西土城站与10号线实现换乘。
为实现线路换乘，既有2号线前门站和10号线西土城站将于近期进行换乘设施改造，增建换乘厅及换乘通道，并对车站出入口、站厅、站台以及设备区进行改造。整体工程涉及信号、通信、供电等诸多领域，且工程量大、工期较长，正常运营情况下无法进行改造，需对两站采取封站停运措施。
据介绍，根据工程进度安排，地铁西土城站自2021年9月19日至2022年1月11日封站，共计115天；地铁前门站自2021年10月8日至12月4日封站，共计58天。封站期间，车站停止人员进出，各次列车通过不停车。
