On August 12, the underground diaphragm wall works of the PPP project for the upgrading and renovation of Xiasha Road and No. 12 Road and ancillary facilities in Hangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, constructed by Qiancheng Pile Engineering, came to a successful conclusion after more than 500 days and nights of arduous efforts, and a completion ceremony was held on site.

Chen Huan'ai, Project Manager of the Zhejiang Communications Construction Group Xiasha Project; Li Lei, Chief Engineer; and Zhou Xiang, Deputy Commercial Manager, attended the site to offer congratulations. Li Dengfeng, Assistant General Manager of the Underground Space Company and Director of the Equipment and Materials Department; Liu Ting, Director of the General Office; and heads of various ongoing projects in Hangzhou attended the ceremony. Yang Kai, Project Manager of the Xiasha Project, together with all project team members, witnessed this important moment of completion.

The PPP project for the upgrading and renovation of Xiasha Road and No. 12 Road and ancillary facilities in Hangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone is an important component of the "Tianmu—Huanbei—Genshan" expressway in Hangzhou's "four vertical and five horizontal" expressway network, and is also a major construction project in Hangzhou's four-year action plan for building an expressway network to welcome the Asian Games and ensure smooth traffic.

The project officially commenced on December 5, 2019. During construction, numerous difficulties were encountered: because the project is located on a major east-west traffic artery in Hangzhou, with heavy traffic volume, busy traffic, and complex surrounding environmental factors, the lanes could not be fully closed during construction, and the construction site was narrow; numerous underground pipelines of various types, including power, communications, gas, rainwater and sewage, and water supply and drainage, were buried under the road, most of them main trunk lines, and were highly complex. Pipeline relocation could not be completed all at once; some pipelines were relocated concurrently with construction, while others could not be relocated during construction and required split-width construction, which affected the construction process and progress in many ways. According to the construction design, the project was divided into multiple foundation pits, but due to pipeline relocation and traffic diversion, continuous foundation pit construction was not possible, and repeated site transfers were required during construction. The construction alignment is adjacent to the Xiasha Highway Canal and Jushou River and crosses the Yueya River, Xinhua River, and Xingfu River, where groundwater is abundant and greatly affects trenching construction.

In the face of numerous difficulties, all management personnel, led by Project Manager Yang Kai, worked with one heart and pooled their wisdom and efforts: while ensuring the safety and smooth progress of on-site construction, they conducted on-site inspections of subsequent construction sites and communicated with the client to confirm site planning and construction plans, making preparations for the next stage of construction in advance; during site transfers, they organized operations rationally to minimize transfer time and improve efficiency to the greatest extent; to ensure construction progress, they adjusted construction plans in real time according to site conditions and shortened the transition time between processes; and during construction, they strictly controlled the quality and safety of each process and each link, making every effort to ensure the orderly and smooth progress of project construction. They successfully completed the project construction task and submitted a high-scoring answer sheet to the client and the company with outstanding results.

The smooth completion of the Xiasha project would not have been possible without the trust and recognition of the general contractor, the strong support of the company and the command headquarters, and, above all, the scientific management of Project Manager Yang Kai and the hard work of all project team members. Owing to scientific management, effective implementation, and outstanding performance in quality, safety, schedule, and cost, the project team was rated as the "Best Organizational Collaboration Team" by Zhejiang Communications Construction Group in January 2020 and once again received a letter of commendation from Zhejiang Communications Construction Group in March 2021. Through practical actions, they established a brand and won honor for the company, and also set a benchmark and example for the company's ongoing projects.
