Guangxi's first GTC project: the airport tunnel for the Nanning-Chongzuo Railway fully holed through

On July 21, the airport tunnel for the Nanning-Chongzuo Railway (Nan-Chong Railway), part of the Nanning International Airport Comprehensive Transportation Hub project (GTC project), was fully holed through, marking major progress in the GTC project's construction. The project is expected to complete and put into use the comprehensive transportation center and the airport tunnel for the Nanning-Chongzuo Railway in October 2022, simultaneously with the Nanning-Chongzuo Railway. By then, EMU travel from Nanning city (Nanning Station) to Wuxu Airport will take only 12 minutes.

It is understood that the airport tunnel works for the Nan-Chong Railway are an important part of the GTC project. The tunnel has a total length of 3,185 meters, including 1,294 meters of mined tunnel, 1,566 meters of cut-and-cover tunnel, 100 meters of U-shaped槽 section, and 225 meters of open-cut tunnel section. The project is highly difficult to construct and has many risk points, passing beneath the busy G322 national highway, the Mingyang Industrial Park Avenue, and the ramp bridge of the Airport Second Expressway. As of now, the airport tunnel works for the Nan-Chong Railway have been fully holed through, and 87% of the contracted works have been completed, marking that the tunnel works have entered the sprint stage of invert filling and secondary lining construction, laying the foundation for the next overall handover to the Nan-Chong Railway project for ballastless track construction.

Guangxi's first GTC project consists of three parts

According to reports, the project is expected to complete and put into use the comprehensive transportation center and the airport tunnel for the Nanning-Chongzuo Railway in October 2022, simultaneously with the Nanning-Chongzuo Railway. By then, EMU travel from Nanning city (Nanning Station) to Wuxu Airport will take only 12 minutes, and from Chongzuo city to Wuxu Airport only 30 minutes; the metro connection to the airport will realize public-transit-style, large-scale transport between Nanning city and the airport, with travel from Yudong Station to the airport taking only 15 minutes. The introduction of the two rail lines into the airport will greatly reduce travel time and fill the gap in air-rail intermodal transport in Guangxi, meet the needs of Nanning Wuxu International Airport's long-term planned passenger throughput of 80 million person-times, and be of great significance to fully implementing the strategy of strengthening the provincial capital, promoting Guangxi's new pattern of all-round opening-up and development featuring "southward connection, northward linkage, eastward integration, and westward cooperation," deeply integrating into the Belt and Road Initiative, realizing the new mission of the "three major positionings," and building a magnificent Guangxi of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
