On July 20, the Shijia'ao Tunnel, constructed by the Jinyong Railway Project Department of the Fourth Company of China Railway No.2 Engineering Group, was successfully holed through, becoming the second long tunnel over 500m to be completed. This marks a phased breakthrough in the construction of the project section and lays a solid foundation for achieving the annual targets.

The Shijia'ao Tunnel is located in Ganlin Town, Shengzhou City, beside the picturesque Yue Opera Town. The tunnel has a total length of 686.75m and a maximum burial depth of about 63m. The surrounding rock is mainly Grade IV, and the three-bench excavation method was adopted.

To ensure the safe and smooth breakthrough of the tunnel, all project participants made unremitting efforts and overcame many unfavorable conditions, including complex tunnel geology, poor surrounding rock, difficulties in muck transport and material supply, and a narrow construction site. The project department continuously optimized the construction organization, strengthened the implementation of the night leadership shift system, actively adjusted construction techniques and methods, strictly implemented safety technical briefings, fully allocated construction resources, and vigorously improved the connection of each process, advanced geological forecasting, and monitoring and measurement, ultimately ensuring the safe and smooth breakthrough of the tunnel.
