On July 19, a reporter learned from the Hefei Key Engineering Bureau that the eastern section of the North Ring Road of the Smooth Second Ring Road project has achieved a major breakthrough. On Friday evening this week, the main elevated bridge of the North Second Ring Road is scheduled to be fully completed and opened to traffic, and several newly built ramps along the route will also be opened successively.

Challenge: BIM 3D technology "overcomes" hazardous major works

The eastern section of the North Ring Road of the Smooth Second Ring Road project starts from the Hewu Line in the west and ends at the Ershibu River in the east. It adopts a ground expressway plus elevated bridge layout, with a total length of about 8.5 kilometers, including 5.4 kilometers of main elevated road and 3.1 kilometers of ground expressway. It intersects with existing roads such as Mengcheng Road, Fuyang Road, Xinbengbu Road, Tongling Road, and Dangtu Road. A pair of on-off ramps is set on the west side of Mengcheng Road and Dangtu Road respectively, forming interchange interchanges with Fuyang Road and Tongling Road.

This project is a reconstruction project of existing roads, located in a built-up urban area. It is being rebuilt and expanded on the basis of the original roads, with heavy traffic and frequent pedestrian access, and normal passage for enterprises and surrounding residents must be ensured during construction. Therefore, during the construction process, multiple traffic diversions are required, sufficient passage areas are reserved on both sides of the road, and security personnel are arranged along and around the roads for traffic direction to ensure orderly traffic during construction. A person in charge from the Hefei Key Engineering Bureau introduced that the project involves many hazardous major works, mainly including high formwork for cast-in-place beams, deep foundation pit excavation, cast-in-place beam construction, and pipe jacking construction, especially the hoisting of the 12th steel box girder span over the existing Tongling Road elevated road. How to complete the construction of hazardous major works quickly and safely is the focus of this project.

During the construction process, through refined management based on BIM technology, the project construction drawing information was transformed into 3D images, thereby vividly realizing the full collaboration of digital design, construction, and operation of the project, and decomposing the model, calculating engineering quantities, environmental monitoring, video surveillance, and real-name management, ensuring the smooth progress of the project as planned.

Plan: Important ramps of Fuyang Road interchange to open

According to the plan, the main elevated bridge of the eastern section of the North Ring Road of the Smooth Second Ring Road project will open at 22:00 on July 23. The opening scope this time is the main elevated bridge from Wuli Mountain Road to Ershibu River section, about 3.1 kilometers long. "This is also the last section of the North Second Ring Road elevated road, marking the completion of the construction of the elevated express system of the Smooth North Second Ring Road. Its completion and opening mean that this main elevated bridge is fully open to traffic," said the project manager.

In addition, at 22:00 on July 23, ramps C, D, ZS, and ZX will be opened simultaneously; at 22:00 on July 25, ramps G and H will be opened. Among them, ramp C is the ramp from the North Second Ring Road elevated road from east to north onto the Fuyang Road elevated road, and ramp D is the ramp from the Fuyang Road elevated road from north to west onto the North Second Ring Road elevated road. Ramps G and H are ramps on the west side of Mengcheng Road from the ground onto and off the North Second Ring Road elevated road, and ramps ZS and ZX are ramps on the west side of Dangtu Road from the ground onto and off the North Second Ring Road elevated road.

It is understood that ramp C (from east to north) and ramp D (from north to west) of the Fuyang Road interchange are very important for travel in the areas around the Second Ring Road. After these two ramps are opened, they will realize the rapid connection between the North Second Ring Road elevated system and the Fuyang Road elevated system, and can effectively relieve the traffic pressure on urban traffic caused by transit vehicles.

After the parallel on-off ramps on the west side of Mengcheng Road and the parallel on-off ramps on the west side of Dangtu Road are opened, they can achieve rapid connection between Mengcheng North Road and Dangtu Road and the North Second Ring Road elevated road.

Focus: Ground road construction under the bridge enters the "final stage"

The reporter learned that with the full opening of the main elevated bridge, the eastern section of the North Ring Road of the Smooth Second Ring Road project has entered its final stage, with about 15% of the overall engineering quantity remaining.

"The ground roads along the route have not all been opened to traffic yet, including express and slow lanes in multiple sections such as from Luling Road to Tongling Road, which are still under urgent construction. Considering the needs of railway-related projects, none of the eight ramps of the Tongling Road interchange have been opened, and some remaining works of the Fuyang Road interchange still need to be advanced, requiring citizens to wait patiently," introduced a project person.

The accelerated construction and opening of the Smooth North Second Ring Road will make Hefei's ring road traffic system smoother, effectively alleviate traffic congestion in the main urban area, give a new look to the old urban areas of Luyang, Xinzhan, and Yaohai, and officially enter a new era of rapid transit. At the same time, the completed North Second Ring Road will effectively shield external traffic, relieve urban traffic pressure, improve traffic efficiency, significantly enhance the traffic capacity of the Second Ring Road, serve the plots along the route, significantly enhance the city's radiation and attraction capacity, strongly support the new leapfrog development, and promote Hefei's accelerated construction of a "high-speed and express integrated" three-dimensional city.
