Recently, the shield tunnel section between Tengda Road Station and Passenger Transport South Station on the Phase I project of Taizhou Regional Railway Line S1 successfully achieved dual-tube breakthrough, marking another step forward for the S1 project toward the goal of full underground section breakthrough. This section is also the first shield tunnel section on Line S1 to achieve dual-tube breakthrough.

Civil Engineering Work Area 7 of the Phase I project of Taizhou Regional Railway Line S1 is located in Luqiao District, Taizhou City. The work area has a total mainline length of 3.209 km, all of which is underground. The construction scope includes the open-cut section (686.03 m) and shield section (403.76 m) between Shanghai North Street Station and Tengda Road Station, the open-cut Tengda Road Station (216 m), and the shield section (1,906 m) between Tengda Road Station and Passenger Transport South Station.

This shield tunnel section lies beneath a major municipal arterial road, where underground pipelines are complex, the soft soil stratum has a high water content, and the tunnel face has poor stability. Shield construction is therefore highly difficult and carries extremely high risk.

To ensure a safe and smooth completion of the breakthrough task, the construction unit made careful plans and carried out scientific verification, consistently adhering to the principle of "grasping both safety and quality." By reasonably formulating the construction plan and strictly implementing the "three inspections, four controls, and five rechecks" system, it set a record of up to 13 rings of excavation in a single day. For important processes and key milestones, it implemented a "hazard identification system" and a "leadership shift supervision system," carried out a series of safety training sessions, strengthened safety awareness among all personnel, actively promoted technological innovation, and achieved cost reduction and efficiency improvement. After 212 days, the dual-tube breakthrough was finally achieved. It is understood that a total of 13 large-diameter shield machines have been deployed across the entire Phase I project of Taizhou Regional Railway Line S1. At present, 5 shield machines have completed their construction tasks, and 82% of the shield tunneling task for the entire line has been completed.

The Phase I project of the regional railway Line S1 has a total length of 52.4 km and a total investment of 22.8 billion yuan. It is an important urban rapid connection corridor among Jiaojiang District, Luqiao District, and Wenling City, and is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic next year. As of now, the project has completed a cumulative investment of 17.189 billion yuan, accounting for 75.4% of the estimated investment.

At present, the main structures of the elevated sections and elevated stations on Line S1 are basically complete, the underground sections have entered the final stage, and track-laying work is in full swing.
