Geothermal Flooring Draws Consumer Attention, Quality Issues Remain Unresolved

Recently, Sohu Focus conducted a questionnaire survey on geothermal flooring. The survey shows that among the factors for purchasing geothermal flooring, "brand awareness" accounted for only 16.08% of the weight. Compared with brand, cost-effectiveness and environmental performance received 27.39% and 23.67% of attention respectively, while heat dissipation effect ranked third. In addition, several consumers specifically noted that "easy maintenance" should also be included among purchasing factors. For companies focused on geothermal flooring, this survey can, to some extent, reflect the huge potential of this market.

Consumers Pay Rational Attention to Geothermal Flooring

Although the flooring industry is currently becoming increasingly stable, geothermal flooring, a "new" category, is attracting more and more consumer attention.

With the growing popularity of environmentally friendly heating concepts, many real estate development projects have adopted geothermal heating and eliminated traditional wall-mounted radiators. People no longer need to waste money enclosing radiators during renovation, and the problem of enclosed radiators affecting heating performance has also been solved. By laying heating pipes in coil form under the floor, people can feel the heat directly from their feet, which is very suitable for human comfort. In addition, in non-traditional heating coverage areas such as southern China, demand for geothermal flooring is even more urgent. Therefore, geothermal heating methods are increasingly favored by people.

With the continuous development of the geothermal flooring market, consumers are becoming more rational in purchasing geothermal flooring products. Simple brand promotion by companies can no longer satisfy consumers' need to understand products. Before personally experiencing a product's environmental performance and practicality, a brand is merely a name lacking persuasiveness.

Quality Issues of Geothermal Flooring Remain to Be Solved

Although attention to geothermal flooring is rising rapidly, research and discussion on a series of issues such as flooring installation compatible with geothermal heating methods are clearly lagging behind, and quality problems related to geothermal flooring are gradually increasing. Under geothermal heating conditions, the shrinkage of solid wood flooring can reach more than 2 millimeters, while the shrinkage of engineered wood flooring is only 1/20 of that of solid wood flooring. Engineered wood flooring is suitable for use in geothermal heating environments.

For operating and maintenance costs, underfloor heating flooring should inevitably "choose thin over thick." Three-layer engineered wood, multi-layer engineered wood, bamboo flooring, and laminate flooring can be selected, with board thickness not exceeding 8 millimeters and at most not exceeding 10 millimeters. However, three-layer engineered wood can reach 15 millimeters. Plastic flooring is generally very thin, within 5 millimeters. Geothermal flooring has high requirements for substrates. With large temperature differences between day and night in winter, flooring will expand with heat and contract with cold, and ordinary flooring cannot withstand such stress.
