On June 10, the left tube of the Daqing Tunnel (entirely Class V, including Class IV collapsible loess), a key project of Section 2 of the Qinghai Xihu Class I Highway Capacity Expansion and Reconstruction Project undertaken by CCCC First Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd., was successfully holed through, making it the first tunnel on the Qinghai Xihu Highway to achieve breakthrough. It is understood that Section XHSG-2 of the Qinghai Xihu Highway starts at Yujia Village in Weiyuan Town, passes through the Huzhu East Interchange, crosses the Pinghu-Datong Highway, and has the Dazhuang Tunnel set near Dazhuang, with its endpoint connecting to the Weiyuan Interchange of the Jiading-Haiyan Highway, totaling 14.98 kilometers in length. At present, 80% of the main works have been completed; the left bore of the Dazhuang Tunnel has reached 594 meters and was the first to break through, while the right bore, with a total length of 672 meters, has reached 641 meters. The tunnel works are expected to be fully holed through in early July this year.

The Qinghai Xihu Class I Highway Capacity Expansion and Reconstruction Project has a total length of 42.17 kilometers, including 25.2 kilometers of in-situ expansion and 16.97 kilometers of newly built sections. It covers 23 villages in four townships—Tangchuan Town, Weiyuan Town, Donggou Township, and Donghe Township—within Huzhu County. Once completed, the project will connect the G6 Expressway with the Jiading-Xihai Highway via the Xining-Huzhu Highway, and is of great significance for strengthening economic connectivity within the urban agglomeration of eastern Qinghai, promoting coordinated development of tourism resources in eastern Qinghai, and driving economic development along the project route.
