6月3日，江苏省人民政府《关于进一步加快推进铁路发展的意见》（苏政发〔2021〕39号）文正式对外发布。
意见明确：到2025年，基本建成“轨道上的江苏”。新增铁路1000公里，总里程达到5200公里，其中高铁3000公里，覆盖所有设区市和90%县级以上节点；到2035年，全面建成“轨道上的江苏”，实现95%县级以上节点高铁通达，其中50万以上人口城市（县）高铁全覆盖。推动形成以国家“八纵八横”在我省的“两纵两横”高铁网为骨干，以区域城际铁路为延伸拓展，以省会南京为核心，以苏州南通、徐州、连云港为三极的“六纵六横一核三极”干线铁路网络。
