According to reports, in terms of regional rail transit connectivity, Wuxi is pursuing an overall layout of connecting east to Suzhou, west to Changzhou, and extending to Shanghai, while deepening preliminary research on intercity rail transit lines such as the Xiyu S3 Line and Xizhang S4 Line. On the eastward connection to Suzhou, Metro Line 5 will be extended east to connect with Suzhou's Xiangcheng District and link up with Suzhou Line 7, while Metro Line 3 will cross the Wangyu River to connect with a reserved line in Suzhou High-tech Zone. Toward Changzhou, Metro Line 3 will be extended north to connect with Changzhou's Wujin District and link up with Changzhou Metro Line 2. Once these projects are implemented, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou will be linked by a single rail network.
