The Hedong Bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 1998 and has served society for about 23 years. Faced with years of overloaded operation caused by overweight vehicles, the structure of the Hedong Bridge has suffered damage to varying degrees. According to the relevant provisions of the technical standards for urban bridge maintenance, combined with the results of regular annual inspections of the bridge by the bridge management unit, the Hedong Bridge has reached the standards and requirements for major repair. To ensure the safe use of the Hedong Bridge, construction will be carried out, including replacement of the stay cables of the main bridge, repair and reinforcement of the east and west approach bridges, and reconstruction of the girder body at the original toll plaza. At the same time, a bridge landscape enhancement project will be carried out. It can be expected that after the major repair is completed, the Hedong Bridge will take on a completely new look and further improve the comfort of passing drivers and passengers.

In the early stage of the project, in order to minimize the impact on social traffic, the relevant departments held many expert seminars, and the experts finally chose the scheme with the shortest impact on traffic passage time. This repair mainly involves three construction areas: the original toll plaza, the east and west approach bridges, and the main bridge, with the goal of opening to traffic by the end of December. Construction is mainly implemented in two stages.

The first stage of construction runs from the end of May to the end of December, carrying out fully enclosed construction in the space under the bridge at the original toll plaza (Changgang West Road), and conducting bridge reinforcement and temporary support to create conditions for bridge reconstruction. The second stage of construction is scheduled from July to the end of December. Through necessary traffic control measures on the bridge deck, the stay cables of the main bridge will be replaced, the bridge superstructure at the original toll plaza will be reconstructed, and the east and west approach bridges will be repaired and reinforced.

In the first stage, the original toll plaza (Changgang West Road) will first be closed, with the planned closure construction period from the end of May to the end of December. Changgang West Road is an urban branch road, and fully enclosed construction will have relatively little impact on society. During construction, social vehicles will be prohibited from entering Changgang West Road, but pedestrian passage will be retained. The vehicle detour schemes for Changgang West Road are as follows: the north detour route starts from Industrial Avenue, passes through Shadu Road and community roads, and finally reaches Changgang West Road; the south detour route starts from Industrial Avenue, passes through Xinnan Road and Nanbian Road, and finally reaches Changgang West Road.

The traffic diversion scheme for the second stage is under further discussion. The relevant units are combining the construction scheme to seek a win-win solution with a short construction period and technical safety, and are submitting it to the approval department for approval.

During construction, the construction unit will guide passing vehicles in accordance with the traffic diversion scheme approved by the relevant departments, and will add traffic diversion personnel at necessary nodes to direct traffic, minimizing the impact as much as possible.

Bridge repair will indeed have a certain impact on citizens' travel, but bridge repair is even more for ensuring the safety of citizens' travel in the future. It is hoped that citizens will understand and support this repair project.
