On May 25, Cover News learned from Sichuan Communications Construction that after more than 120 days of arduous work, construction of the Anshun Dadu River Grand Bridge on the Luding-Shimian Expressway was completed ahead of the flood season, with the construction tasks for piers 20-21# successfully finished and the island construction platform in the middle of the river safely removed.

"The removal of the island construction platform is mainly to ensure flood discharge capacity and guarantee safe passage through the flood season," said Yu Xiaozhou, project manager of the Luding-Shimian TJ9 bid section. He noted that after this year's flood season ends, the construction unit will again use this island-building method for the second phase of construction. "We plan to complete the first phase of river-related construction before July 1, that is, complete all substructure construction for piers 19-21#, including river channel cleanup of the island platforms in the water."

According to the plan, the Anshun Dadu River Grand Bridge will complete substructure construction by the end of next year, and complete superstructure, bridge deck system, and ancillary works before the end of June 2023, making full preparations for the full completion and opening of the Luding-Shimian Expressway in 2024. "For this year's targets, our bid section will strive to complete the filling of the island platform in the water for the second phase of river-related construction at piers 22-23# before December 31, meet the conditions for in-water construction of piers 22-23#, complete 60% of the bridge's pile foundations, and complete 40% of the substructure."

It is understood that the Anshun Dadu River Grand Bridge is the last of the four Dadu River crossings along the entire Luding-Shimian Expressway and is one of the control works of the Luding-Shimian TJ9 bid section's "three tunnels, three bridges, and one interchange." Located in the Shimian seismic zone, it crosses the Dadu River at Anjing Village and connects Anjing Community of Xinmian Subdistrict in Shimian County with Xiaoshui Village of Anshunchang Town at both ends. As the only bridge crossing the Dadu River in the Shimian section of the Luding-Shimian Expressway, it is one of the important control works of the project.

To seize the golden construction period before the flood season, the construction site of the Dadu River Grand Bridge undertaken by the Luding-Shimian Expressway TJ9 project department has been demonstrating "accelerated" progress every day. The bridge's first pier column and first bent cap, completed earlier, were both "first-piece projects" poured first within the entire C2 contract section, accumulating valuable experience for subsequent construction.
