On May 24, the right tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the section from No. 3 Ventilation Shaft Station to Wensan Road Station of the Hangzhou Airport Express Line SGJC-5 project, constructed by the Municipal Engineering Company of China Railway 18th Bureau Group, was successfully launched. This is the fourth TBM successfully launched within five months in this bid section, marking that the Hangzhou Airport Express Line project has entered the stage of a major TBM construction campaign.

The Hangzhou Airport Rail Express Line SGJC-5 project consists of one station and two sections, with a total line length of about 5.5 kilometers. The TBM tunneling route in this bid section passes through roads with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, making it highly prone to risks such as ground and pipeline settlement, cracking, and collapse. It also successively passes beneath existing structures and risk sources such as Huming Bridge, Fengjiahe Bridge, and Gudang Bridge. The geological conditions in the bid section are complex, with multiple long-distance crossings through silty clay, silty clayey soil, and clay strata, placing extremely high demands on TBM cutter selection, ground settlement control, and TBM tunneling parameter control.

It is understood that, as an important transportation support project for the 2022 Asian Games, this project has a tight schedule and heavy tasks. Since entering the site in October 2019, the Municipal Engineering Company of China Railway 18th Bureau Group has firmly established the awareness of "speed first" and created the fastest traffic diversion speed for under-construction subways in Hangzhou.

The project department organized and established a Party member safety supervision post and a youth突击队 for TBM assembly and commissioning. In light of actual construction conditions, following the principle of "daily implementation, constant supervision, dynamic progress feedback, and timely problem solving," it adopted a 24-hour leadership duty system to ensure TBM construction throughout the entire process.

The Hangzhou Airport Rail Express Line, also known as the Hangzhou Central Axis Express Line, is an important transportation support project for the 2022 Asian Games and a key construction project in Zhejiang Province. It is a "through-the-heart" express line connecting the city's traditional center with future development hotspots. Once in operation, it will connect important external transportation hubs in Hangzhou such as Hangzhou West Railway Station, Hangzhou East Railway Station, and Xiaoshan Airport, greatly alleviating urban traffic pressure and promoting regional economic development.
