At 11 a.m. on May 17, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Design and Construction Contract for the Sewage Interception Pipeline in Macau's New Port Area, undertaken by the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group – China Railway Tunnel Group – Ming Xin Construction and Real Estate Joint Venture, was held at Praça de Lobo de Ávila in Macau. Representatives from the Macau SAR Government's Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau, CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. (Macau), Hing Ou Engineering Consultant Co., Ltd., the Macau Civil Engineering Laboratory, the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group – China Railway Tunnel Group – Ming Xin Joint Venture, and related partners attended the ceremony.

The project is Macau's first shield tunneling project and also China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group's first shield tunneling project in an overseas market. Located along a section of Avenida da Amizade between the pumping station near the UNESCO Centre and the Hac Sa Wan Sewage Treatment Plant, the project mainly involves constructing a sewage pipeline with a total length of approximately 2,400 meters and an inner diameter of 2 meters between the New Port reclamation area and the Hac Sa Wan Sewage Treatment Plant. The shield tunneling method will be adopted, using a tunnel boring machine with an outer diameter of approximately 3.3 meters or more for excavation. Once completed, the project will be of great significance for meeting urban development needs, enhancing the sewage discharge capacity of the New Port area, and promoting regional economic development.
