According to the Hubei Provincial Department of Transportation, the province completed a total of 22.45 billion yuan in fixed-asset investment in transportation in the first quarter, accounting for 22.5% of the annual target and roughly on par with the same period in 2019, maintaining a generally sound momentum.
Plan early, start early. On January 20, construction began on the Xianning section of the Xianning–Jiujiang Expressway, the first expressway project to break ground in Hubei this year. On February 22, the reconstruction and expansion project of the Zhongzhou–Beihu section of the Wuhan Ring Expressway started, and the reconstruction and expansion of the northern Hubei section of the Beijing–Hong Kong–Macao Expressway is being advanced in full swing. These are the first batch of expressway reconstruction and expansion projects in Hubei, with a combined construction length of 188 kilometers and a total investment of 25.7 billion yuan.
In the first quarter, Hubei completed a total of 1.21 billion yuan in fixed-asset investment in waterway transportation, accounting for 20.2% of the annual target. Of this, port projects completed 970 million yuan and waterway projects completed 240 million yuan. Spurring project starts and ensuring construction have become buzzwords for Hubei's water transport investment. At present, a number of key port and waterway projects are being accelerated, including the Yakou Navigation Hub Project on the Han River, the Gushan Navigation and Hydropower Hub Project, Phase II of the Wuhan Yangluo International Container Project, Phase I of the Jingzhou Coal Rail-Water Intermodal Transport Reserve Base, and the Songxi River waterway regulation project. The Yakou Navigation Hub is expected to be connected to the grid and generate power in the second half of the year.
It is reported that Hubei Province will ensure more than 100 billion yuan in fixed-asset investment in highways and waterways this year, strive to complete 132 kilometers of expressways, build 500 kilometers of first-class highways and 700 kilometers of second-class highways, newly build or upgrade 13,000 kilometers of rural roads, and add 10 million tons of port throughput capacity, aiming to exceed the annual target and achieve a strong start and a brilliant year.
