At 16:16 on April 10, the "Tianyou No. 41" shield machine for the left line of the Guicheng–Zhen'an section of Bid 3205-1 on Foshan Metro Line 3 successfully completed its launch and officially entered the shield tunneling stage.
According to the construction contractor, the overburden of the left-line tunnel in the Zhen'an–Guicheng section consists of water-rich sand layers. The total length of the shield-driven section is 1310.304 m, with a tunnel depth of 8.6 m to 20.45 m. Two cross passages are provided in the section. The shield machine was launched from the small-mileage end of Guicheng Station and is tunneling toward Zhen'an Station.
Based on the advancement of the right line and the results of supplementary geological surveys, the geology ahead is extremely complex. The first 300 m from the launch point consists of mudstone, which poses a major challenge to the normal advancement of the slurry shield machine. In addition, 10.8 m after launch, the tunnel passes beneath the underground passage of a commercial building, with only just over 6.7 m between the passage and the tunnel crown, over a crossing length of 29.1 m. The section runs along Nanhai Avenue, one of the three major arterial roads in Nanhai, Foshan, passing alongside numerous surrounding buildings and crossing approximately 400 m of river channel.
