Recently, the reporter learned from CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd. that the company has won the bid for the survey, design, and design consulting (A2-1 section) project of the Shiziyang Channel in Guangdong Province.

It is reported that the Shiziyang Channel is an important east-west corridor connecting Guangzhou and Dongguan in the Guangdong Provincial Expressway Network Plan. The project's construction will enhance infrastructure connectivity on both sides of the Pearl River Estuary and add momentum to the accelerated development of the Greater Bay Area. Once completed, it will become a new landmark in the Greater Bay Area.

The Shiziyang Channel starts at Dagang Town in Nansha District (connecting to the Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway and the Dongguan-Shenzhen Expressway), passes through Dongchong and Huangge in Nansha, crosses the Pearl River between Humen Port and Xiaohu Island in Guangzhou, then goes west through Shatian Town, and ends at Xinlian in Humen Town, Dongguan (connecting to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway and the Humen Port Branch Phase I of the Changhu Expressway). It is about 35 kilometers long, with the river-crossing section adopting a double-deck bridge scheme about 12.5 kilometers long. The main bridge is a single-span suspension bridge with a steel truss girder and a main span of 2,180 meters. The entire line adopts the technical standard of a two-way eight-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 km/h. The river-crossing section adopts the technical standard of a two-way 16-lane expressway (8 lanes on the upper deck + 8 lanes on the lower deck), with a subgrade width of 41.5 meters. Local connecting projects include the Nansha Guige Avenue, recommended to adopt the standard of a first-class highway with urban arterial road functions, two-way six lanes, and a design speed of 60 km/h; the Dongguan Baisha South Road joint construction section, recommended to adopt the technical standard of an urban expressway, two-way six lanes, and a design speed of [missing value] km/h; and the reconstruction of the two-lane Lundu Road.

It is understood that the Shiziyang Channel is a suspension bridge with super-long span, super-heavy load, and super-wide deck, posing world-class technical challenges.

According to a comprehensive release by Guangdong Transportation Group, the Shiziyang Channel, which is about to start construction, will join forces with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Nansha Bridge, Humen Bridge, Huangpu Bridge, Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Channel, etc., to build a world-class transportation hub and jointly continue writing the "story of spring" for the connectivity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Guangdong's reform and opening-up.

The general manager of Guangdong Transportation Group stated: "The Shiziyang Channel project has high technical difficulty, complex construction conditions, and a tight schedule. In particular, the main bridge scheme of the Shiziyang Channel is a double-deck bridge with 8 lanes on each deck, totaling 16 lanes under the expressway technical standard, and it is a suspension bridge with super-long span, super-heavy load, and super-wide deck, posing world-class technical challenges. However, we are confident and determined to build the project into a world-class river-crossing channel with the spirit of 'pioneering', the drive of 'innovation', and the style of 'hard work'." Currently, the group is constructing six projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Channel, with a total investment of over 100 billion yuan.

The Shiziyang Channel was awarded to a consortium formed by Guangdong Transportation Group Co., Ltd., Dongguan Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd.

The total investment of the three projects, including the Shiziyang Channel, is nearly 70 billion yuan, which is of great significance for promoting the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and strengthening the radiation of the Greater Bay Area to northern Guangdong.
