The line is a loop line with a total length of about 50 kilometers and 37 stations, including 18 transfer stations. With the simultaneous opening of Metro Lines 5, 6, and 9 before the Chinese New Year, the travel happiness index of residents along the routes has soared instantly. The only loop line in Xi'an's metro network, Line 8, which has attracted much public attention, has also made substantial progress. On the morning of January 27, the cutterhead of the shield machine for the left line of the Dabaiyang–Xiaobaiyang section of Xi'an Metro Line 8 slowly started, marking the successful launch of the first shield machine on the entire line and signaling that Metro Line 8 has officially entered the shield tunneling construction stage.

(The 3 stations and 4 sections include: Fanjiacun Station, Hongmiaopo Station, Dabaiyang Station, Mingguanglu–Fanjiacun section, Fanjiacun–Hongmiaopo section, Hongmiaopo–Dabaiyang section, and Dabaiyang–Xiaobaiyang section.) The "Zhengxianhao" shield machine launched this time undertakes the tunneling task for the left line of the Dabaiyang–Xiaobaiyang section.

To ensure the smooth launch of the shield machine, under the coordination and guidance of Xi'an Rail Transit Group, the construction unit, while implementing epidemic prevention and control measures, organized scientifically and overcame difficulties such as high transportation difficulty and limited site space. It safely and efficiently completed key procedures including hoisting the shield machine into the shaft, installation and commissioning, review of the construction plan, and acceptance of launch conditions, successfully achieving the shield launch target. Next, during the shield tunneling process, technical personnel will carry out 24-hour uninterrupted monitoring, measure ground settlement in real time, and strictly control tunneling parameters through information-based monitoring to ensure the safe and stable advancement of the shield machine.

The reason Xi'an Metro Line 8 has attracted so much attention is that, in addition to being the most important backbone line in Xi'an's rail transit network, it is also the only loop line in the network plan. The line runs through five administrative districts—Yanta, Xincheng, Baqiao, Weiyang, and Lianhu—as well as five new development zones: the High-tech Zone, Qujiang New District, Chanba Ecological District, Economic and Technological Development Zone, and Daxing New District.

Line 8 has 37 stations in total, including 18 transfer stations, enabling transfers with the six lines already in operation (Lines 1 to 6) and the planned Lines 7, 10, 11, and 19. Once completed, the line will be of great significance for alleviating traffic congestion in Xi'an's central urban area and promoting urban development.

The total length of Line 8 is about 50 kilometers. The line is laid out along Zhangba East Road, Yanzhan Road, Yannan 4th Road, Hanyao Road, South 3rd Ring Road, Changming Road, Xingfu Lindai, Guangyuntan Avenue, Chanba 1st Road, Fengcheng 2nd Road, Zhuhong Road, Daxing Road, West 2nd Ring Road, Fenggui Road, and Tangyan Road, all as underground lines. The construction period is from 2019 to 2025. After completion, Metro Line 8 will form a fast and convenient passenger transfer corridor between the existing Second Ring Road and Third Ring Road in Xi'an's main urban area. At that time, Type A trains and fully automated driving systems will be adopted.

Up to now, 22 stations on the entire Xi'an Metro Line 8 have entered enclosure structure construction, of which 9 stations have completed enclosure structure construction, 3 mined stations are undergoing cross-passage construction, and 23 sections are under construction.
