Since construction began last year, the new stadium project has drawn constant public attention. Yesterday, reporters saw at the construction site that after a period of work, the main structure of the stadium has been topped out, and work will shift to the secondary structure and grandstand slabs. According to the on-site construction manager, based on current progress, hoisting of the west grandstand slabs is expected to begin in mid-August; in addition, materials for the stadium's 280-meter main arch have begun to be stocked, with fabrication expected to start by the end of September.

    Main structure topped out

    The new stadium project is located east of the Sports Park in the Western New City area. Yesterday afternoon, standing on the arched slope east of the Sports Park, reporters saw that within the construction fence the stadium's "skeleton" had risen high, with thick metal beams and columns forming a circle and an elegant arc. After entering the site, the prototype of the stadium's "skeleton" came into view, and the civil works had achieved topping out of the main structure. "At present, concrete pouring for the west, south and north grandstands has been completed, and concrete has also been poured for the roof of the broadcast room at the west grandstand's highest point of 26.6 m. In addition, construction of the enclosure structure has begun, and 30% of basement pipeline installation has been completed," the construction manager said.

    To be completed and delivered before August next year

    "The new stadium under construction is a standard football and athletics venue, with a total site area of 118,660.59 square meters. The highest point of the roof canopy reaches a standard height of 49 meters above ground, and it can accommodate more than 30,000 spectators at once," the manager said.

    From the stadium planning rendering at the site entrance, reporters saw that the stadium is shaped like a large bowl. Its ingenuity lies in making reasonable use of the original ecological terrain and landforms. "The stadium uses the terrain, which is high in the west and low in the east, to arrange the grandstands, making the asymmetrical layout, with more seating in the west and less in the east, consistent with the trend of the terrain section. This fully integrates the man-made building into the natural landscape and blends it with the original terrain," said a relevant responsible comrade. After completion, the stadium will be able to host major domestic single-sport events, and some comprehensive provincial sports events can also be held at Yangzhou Stadium. It is understood that the project is expected to be completed before August next year.
