"6400" is just a number, but when linked to a crane, it represents a remarkable breakthrough in China's mechanical equipment manufacturing industry.
On July 12, the largest domestic 6400-ton hydraulic compound crane completed its 90-meter high-altitude lifting dynamic load test at the Taiyuan base of China Chemical Engineering Second Construction Corporation. Its successful development means that construction cycles for industries such as coal chemical engineering will be greatly shortened.
According to Li Xingkui, director of the Special Equipment Research Institute at Liuzhou OVM Machinery Co., Ltd., the key technology provider for this project, the 6400-ton hydraulic compound crane project was completed through cooperation among Zhongke Synthesis, China Chemical Engineering Second Construction Corporation, Taiyuan Heavy Industry, and Liuzhou OVM Machinery Co., Ltd. It was mainly developed for lifting and translating super-large components, and is particularly suitable for the installation of large vessels in coal-to-liquids chemical plants. Liuzhou OVM is the supplier of the complete hydraulic equipment for the 6400-ton compound crane, including system development, production, debugging, installation, and on-site construction guidance.
Currently, the 6400-ton hydraulic compound crane is undergoing lowering tests and beam clamping and crawling jacking tests for the lifting beam. All simulated tests for various working conditions are expected to be completed by August 10, and the crane is scheduled to be officially applied in the project in early September.
  Success comes from strength
With the rapid development of domestic coal chemical and petroleum refining industries, higher requirements have been placed on the installation processes and lifting of super-large vessel equipment. The 6400-ton hydraulic compound crane was developed and manufactured to meet the lifting requirements of large reactor tanks in the petrochemical industry. Its maximum lifting capacity reaches 6400 tons, equivalent to lifting the weight of 100 train cars to a height of 120 meters. Compared with the large crawler cranes often used in the past, this equipment has many advantages such as good lifting performance, low cost, good interchangeability, and suitability for multiple working conditions. It is lightweight, occupies a small area, and is easy to install and transport. It solves the technical difficulties of lifting large components for large domestic enterprises, especially in fields such as coal chemical, petrochemical, power, metallurgy, and construction, and can significantly reduce lifting cycles and costs, generating enormous economic and social benefits.
In the research, development, and production of this project, OVM involved 134 jacks, more than 40 pump stations, and nearly 500 sensors. The project system is complex, integrating a hydraulic lifting system, jacking system, guy rope system, bidirectional rail clamp system, lifter translation system, and standard section jacking system. After the project contract was signed, various departments of OVM concentrated their superior forces and responded quickly, overcoming numerous difficulties. From research and development to system debugging and then to testing, they successfully completed the development of six systems in just four months and shipped them to the site for assembly. In April 2013, the dynamic load test of a 120-meter single gantry was completed; in May 2013, the horizontal back-to-back overload test was completed; on July 12, 2013, the dynamic load test of the 90-meter compound gantry was completed...
Project partners said that it was within their expectations that Liuzhou OVM could excellently complete this project. It is precisely because OVM has such strength and capability that they chose OVM as a partner.
  Innovation achieves the extraordinary
The machinery manufacturing industry provides technical equipment for the entire national economy, and its development level is one of the main indicators of a country's degree of industrialization. Independent innovation capability is undoubtedly the key to the development of machinery manufacturing.
The core competitiveness of Liuzhou OVM is independent innovation, which is also the foundation for their becoming an industry leader. As a provider of prestressing system solutions, they are also far ahead of their peers in the innovation of special equipment. Over the past 47 years, they have been involved in equipment for the installation, lifting, and translation of super-large components in industries such as marine engineering, petrochemical, power, metallurgy, and shipbuilding. They have broken the monopoly of foreign companies in the skidding load-out of offshore oil platform modules and jackets, completed multiple jacket and module skidding load-out projects including Asia's largest jacket PY30-1, and for the first time in China successfully used a pulling jack system to salvage the stern section of the Changtong vessel, and salvaged a warship in the Bohai Bay. This technology has pioneered offshore emergency salvage techniques. In the construction industry, they have completed large lifting projects such as the antenna mast of the Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the steel roof of the Shanghai Grand Theatre, and the steel gate tower of Beijing West Railway Station. The successful development of the core technology of the 6400-ton hydraulic compound crane and the successful application of the first product mark another big step for OVM in building the best lifting equipment for super-large vessel lifting in the domestic chemical industry and promoting the development of the chemical industry, especially coal-to-liquids technology.
"6400" has enabled OVM to reach a new height in the mechanical equipment manufacturing industry; "6400" is of extraordinary significance to the development of special equipment at OVM. (This article is from LiuGong OVM)
