The reporter learned from the Hubei Provincial Transport Work Conference that in 2019 Hubei Province is expected to complete more than 112 billion yuan in waterway and highway investment, accounting for 124.4% of the annual target, ranking first in Central China and seventh nationwide, with growth ranking fourth nationwide.

In 2019, Hubei Province completed the construction of the "14 roads and 5 bridges" expressway program, built 1,585 kilometers of Class I and Class II highways, and started construction on 51 new projects totaling 1,097 kilometers, including the Jingmen section of G348; it newly built and upgraded 33,000 kilometers of rural roads, ranking first nationwide, with construction progress in the nation's top tier, all natural villages with more than 20 households connected by road, achieving "road access for every village group" one year ahead of schedule; it created 8 national demonstration counties, 26 provincial demonstration counties and 45 demonstration townships for "Four Good Rural Roads"; in addition, it upgraded 16,000 kilometers of rural roads, built 11,000 kilometers of beautiful roads, and completed 29,000 kilometers of "455" safety protection projects, fulfilling the set tasks one year ahead of schedule. The rural traffic accident rate dropped further, and the situation in which farmers had difficulty, high cost, slow speed and unsafe travel was completely reversed.

A responsible person from the Provincial Department of Transport introduced that last year the department made the "cancellation of toll stations" on highway toll roads a central task of the year, adding 4.641 million new ETC users for a cumulative total of 7.221 million, exceeding ahead of schedule the targets set by the Ministry of Transport and the provincial government. Hubei Province's 1,013 ETC gantry systems, 1,544 ETC lanes, 379 toll station entrance weighing systems and other off-site facilities were fully completed, and the toll system was successfully integrated into the national network, realizing non-stop rapid toll collection, with the experience promoted nationwide.
