Recently, news that Suzhou will build China's tallest building, the "Jinji Tower," has been widely circulated online, drawing public attention. On the 18th, the reporter learned from the Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee that Zhongnan Group is indeed investing in and constructing a super high-rise project in the area, but the final plan has not yet been determined.
A post widely circulated online claims that a 138-story super high-rise building of over 700 meters will soon be built next to the Gate of the Orient in Suzhou. It is expected to surpass the planned Shenzhen Ping An Finance Center and the under-construction Wuhan Greenland Center to become China's tallest building. The developer is Zhongnan Construction.
In response to this news, the project developer Zhongnan Group stated in a reply to Xinhua News Agency reporters on the 18th: The company is indeed investing in and constructing a super high-rise project in Suzhou. The confirmed name is currently: Suzhou Zhongnan Center. The specific address of the project is at the junction of Xingyang Street and Suhui Road.
The reporter checked the map and found that this plot is less than 1 kilometer in a straight line from the Gate of the Orient. Previously, because its appearance resembles a pair of "long johns," the Gate of the Orient in Suzhou has been controversial.
According to the introduction, Zhongnan Group acquired the project through public bidding in June 2012 and subsequently conducted an international design competition. The so-called "Jinji Tower" plan seen online is only one of the proposals during the bidding process, not the confirmed plan. So far, the final plan for Suzhou Zhongnan Center has not been determined.

How Many More "Tallest Buildings" Are There?
Wuhan Greenland Center
More and more towers are rising in cities, and the title of "tallest building" is being contested everywhere. The Wuhan Greenland Center, originally planned at 606 meters and billed as "third in the world, second in China, first in central China," is adjusting its plan to create China's tallest building. The latest height is very likely to be 636 meters. Why 636 meters? A relevant person in charge explained that the tallest building currently under construction in China, the "Shanghai Tower," is 632 meters, and Wuhan Greenland needs to be at least 26 meters taller to surpass it.
According to the plan, this super high-rise building standing on the south bank of the Yangtze River in Wuhan will be completed in 2017. Its deep foundation pit will be excavated to about 30 meters underground, and the diaphragm walls and pile foundations will be driven more than 50 meters deep underground. The underground works alone will take two years.
It is worth mentioning that the current "tallest building" under construction in Wuhan is the "Wuhan Center" located in Hankou, designed to be about 428 meters tall with 88 floors. This project, proposed by Oceanwide International in December 2004 and approved immediately, is still under construction.
Shenzhen Ping An Finance Center
The Shenzhen Ping An Finance Center, with a total designed height of 660 meters, is under construction and has recently successfully passed the 100-meter mark. The Ping An Finance Center has 5 underground floors and 118 above-ground floors, with a total height of 660 meters, a floor area of 490,000 square meters, and a total steel usage of 100,000 tons. Once completed, it will become "China's tallest building" and "the world's second tallest building."
It is understood that the actual height of the Shenzhen Ping An Finance Center is 580 meters, but its design includes an antenna, making the total height 660 meters.
Shanghai Tower
Recently, the under-construction Shanghai Tower has entered the sprint stage before structural topping-out. It is expected to achieve main structure topping-out in early August and be fully completed and put into use in 2015. Shanghai Tower is located in the Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone in Pudong, Shanghai, with a total designed height of 632 meters, making it the tallest building under construction in China.
