For construction enterprises, the achievements in engineering development directly determine the company's economic indicators and benefits. Without winning bids and securing projects, none of the business operations and production can even be discussed, and the pressure is imaginable. At this point, everyone might associate this image with a tall and sturdy man, but Comrade Li Li, Director of Development at the Engineering Company of China Coal Mine Construction Group, is a brilliant and courageous woman in this industry.

When people mention Li Li, those who know her always associate her with diligence, amiability, and dedication. As a woman born in the 1970s, she is renowned for her decisiveness and hard work. Since she became Director of the Development Department in 2009, she has led the entire department to unite and strive together, completing bidding tasks excellently year after year. In 2009, tasks worth 610 million yuan were secured; in 2010, 730 million yuan; in 2011, 860 million yuan—rising to a new level each year, like sesame flowers blooming ever higher, making tremendous contributions to the leapfrog development of the engineering company.

As a work leader, Li Li fully demonstrates her gentle, tolerant, and understanding personality in how she brings out the collective wisdom of the team and builds cohesion. She attends to every detail and takes personal charge of everything, infecting every member of the department with her passion for work and the courage of a Communist Party member who fears no hardships or obstacles. In the Development Department, she is less a leader and more a warm-hearted elder sister. Under her influence, the Development Department has formed a good atmosphere of mutual trust and collaborative progress. The Development Department has been awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Collective" for consecutive years, and she has also been rated multiple times as "Outstanding Communist Party Member" and "Advanced Worker."

Behind her success are the hardships and sweat she has poured in. To win projects and stand out among numerous competitors in fierce market competition is no easy task. Li Li clearly recognizes: "The market will never sympathize with the weak!" She led the Development Department members to overcome the difficulties of limited staff and heavy tasks, actively expanding sources of bidding information, establishing an engineering tender information database, conducting careful evaluation and screening, and arranging dedicated personnel to track and tackle key projects. Over years of engineering development work, overtime has become routine for her, and all-nighters have become the norm. Sometimes when work is urgent and tasks are heavy, she would stay up several nights in a row. Continuous fatigue led to mouth ulcers, yet she stubbornly held medicine in her mouth while staying at her post.

Last summer, the company targeted a key project in Huaibei City—the B section of the resettlement housing project in the Huaibei Economic Development Zone, with a total area of 135,000 square meters and a project cost exceeding 140 million yuan. The workload of 46 buildings needed to be entered into the computer one by one. With tight time and heavy tasks, and the bid opening date approaching, Li Li led the Development Department personnel to form a task force and worked through the night for nearly a week straight. When someone was tired from entering data, she would personally sit at the computer to apply quota rates; when a sub-item list lacked quantities, she would quickly check drawings and look up data. "Hard work pays off"—the bid documents were finally completed before the bid opening. When the good news of winning the bid came, the exhausted Li Li had already fallen asleep peacefully on the office sofa.

"Details determine success or failure," and this is especially true for bidding work. Winning a bid often hinges on a seemingly insignificant detail. She often says: "We cannot decide whether we win the bid, but we can avoid mistakes in our work. We must treat every bid document as our own responsibility. What we submit represents not any individual, but the image of a collective and an enterprise. After gaining social credibility, you will gain more partners and business opportunities." During the bidding process for the Tanghe Road project in Suzhou City, the Development Department encountered strong competitors. Li Li demanded that they pay full attention to details. When preparing the bid documents, they repeatedly studied and calculated the project quotation, carefully analyzed the competitors' pricing strategies, and deliberated over every tiny piece of data, making everything detailed and solid. Ultimately, with a slight advantage of a reasonable low price, they won the bid in one stroke.

Challenge after challenge, difficulty after difficulty—she led the Development Department to keep advancing and growing through hard work. The amount of individual bids won by the Development Department has been refreshed time and again: 80 million yuan for the Quanjiao Directly Affiliated Depot project of the Central Grain Reserve, 140 million yuan for the resettlement housing project in Huaibei Economic Development Zone, and 230 million yuan for the reconstruction and expansion project of the Cailou Distribution Station in Huaibei.

Such a strong career woman always carries deep guilt toward her family. Due to the continuous cycle of work, with almost no days off in all 365 days of the year, her child attends a boarding school far away in Hefei, and Li Li rarely has time to care for the child's life and studies. The child has always wanted to see the sea. Li Li promised for three years, and the child is almost graduating from junior high school, yet this small wish has still not been fulfilled.

Seeking greatness in the ordinary, pursuing excellence in the details, and striving hard in her own position—this is Li Li, the person beside us, an ordinary woman of China Coal Mine Construction, a hardworking worker in an ordinary position, like a blooming beautiful steel rose, demonstrating "self-respect, self-confidence, and self-reliance."
