Due to days of heavy rain, multiple sections of the Duwen Expressway were buried by mudslides. Yesterday at noon, good news came from the reopening site of the Duwen Expressway: the emergency access road at the Futang Tunnel entrance was cleared. At this point, all access roads on the Duwen Expressway damaged by mudslides have been opened. However, for now only rescue vehicles and construction vehicles are permitted to pass; social vehicles are temporarily not allowed.

At around 1 p.m. yesterday, the emergency access road at the Futang Tunnel entrance on the Duwen Expressway was cleared. At this point, all access roads on the Duwen Expressway damaged by mudslides have been opened, forming a temporary emergency access route from Wenchuan to Yingxiu for rescue and construction vehicles. Social vehicles are temporarily not allowed; vehicles needing to enter or leave Wenchuan must detour via Lixian, Ma'erkang, and Luding.

Collapsed road on the right side of Taoguan Tunnel has been filled in

Affected by heavy rain and mudslides, there were more than 10 mudslide break points along the entire Duwen Expressway, including the Lianshan Village Bridge, the bridge between Futang and Taoguan tunnels, and the Yangdian Village No. 1 Bridge.

Three sections of the Lianshan Village Bridge were submerged by mudslides. The emergency construction team used excavators to clear the mud and stones, while larger fallen rocks were broken apart manually and carried away in pieces. Yesterday, the Lianshan Village Bridge was already passable, and several water trucks and workers were cleaning the mud off the bridge deck.

The left side of the bridge at the Wenchuan-direction exit of the Taoguan Tunnel was destroyed, and there was a collapse at the junction between the right-side bridge deck and the tunnel. The construction team has filled it with earth and stone, and small vehicles can now pass.

Right-side tunnel of Futang Tunnel connected to the left-side bridge

The most severely damaged point along the entire Duwen Expressway was the Futang Tunnel exit. Its left tunnel portal was completely buried, and half of the right tunnel portal was buried. In addition, two spans of the bridge at the right tunnel portal were washed out and impassable. To reopen the route as quickly as possible, the construction team decided to dig a road to connect the right-side tunnel of Futang Tunnel with the left-side bridge, ensuring one-way passage for vehicles.

Starting the morning of the day before yesterday, according to the established plan, several excavators pushed mud and stones from the planned route into the river and simply leveled the road surface. At 1:30 p.m. yesterday, the emergency access road at the Futang Tunnel exit was cleared, and all emergency access roads along the entire Duwen Expressway were opened.

The reporter learned from the Duwen Expressway traffic police that after the emergency access road on the Duwen Expressway was opened, small vehicles can drive from Wenchuan to Chengdu. However, for now only rescue vehicles and construction vehicles are permitted to pass; social vehicles are temporarily not allowed.
