Zhang Jing

Zhang Jing was born in July 1979 in Xiyang, Shanxi. In August 2002, full of ambition, she walked out of the gates of Hebei Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering and became a member of Xinxing Company. From cost estimator to deputy project manager, she now heads the Business Management Department of the division, overseeing the operations of four projects: the Air Force Equipment project, the National Defense University project, the Tianjin CSR project, and the Jiangsu Yancheng project. Step by step, site after site, she has worked in budgeting for 10 years.

In 2005 she was assigned to the Blue Harbor site. The project had a floor area of 160,000 square meters, a complex structure, and unusual shapes, which meant a huge volume of budgeting work. To get up to speed as quickly as possible, she spent her days at the construction site, familiarizing herself with the drawings and taking on-site measurements, and her evenings carefully checking figures against the quota standards. Because the project involved a large number of changes, the settlement work was extremely difficult. She and the other estimators worked overtime and negotiated with the client. Although the settlement process lasted a full year, it ultimately achieved good economic results.

In August 2010, Tianjin CSR and Jiangsu CSR put their projects out to tender in succession, and this responsibility naturally fell on Zhang Jing's shoulders. It was her first time dealing with China CSR and her first time bidding on a project in another region, and the quota standards of the two places were different. Without knowing the local market conditions, competing against several large local construction companies was no easy task. After receiving the tender documents, she immediately took her team to Tianjin and Jiangsu to learn about the local budgeting quotas and to gather information on building materials and the labor market as a basis for preparing the bids. For more than a month, she did not take a single day off, working day and night, and traveled back and forth between Hunan and Jiangsu eight times from bidding to contract signing. Since construction began on the Jiangsu CSR plant project, in order to negotiate specialized subcontracts and settlements, she has averaged one business trip a month, sometimes as short as three to five days and sometimes as long as half a month, and there is no telling how many nights she has spent on trains. At the time of the 2010 bidding, she was already the mother of a two-and-a-half-year-old child. For the sake of her work she put the collective before her family, and her daughter had been cared for by her grandparents since she was four months old.

Zhang Jing lives near Sihui Bridge in Chaoyang District. To avoid traffic jams, she gets up at around 5 a.m. every day. She is always the first to arrive at the site, and there is always more work to be done. She gets home very late every day, and when her parents-in-law see how hard their daughter-in-law works, they take over all the household chores. Zhang Jing's husband works in telecommunications and earns a good income. Seeing his wife so busy all year round and often away from home, he joked with her: “Your annual salary shouldn't be less than 1 million yuan, should it?” Zhang Jing replied: “Our construction industry is just busy. It doesn't matter how much money you make. I just want to do more while I'm young. Besides, the culture at Xinxing Company is wonderful. Since I chose Xinxing, I will spare no effort in devoting my youth to it.”

Over the past ten years, Zhang Jing has been diligent and uncomplaining in her work. In particular, her dedication to her job and her devotion to the company as if it were her own home have won the recognition of her colleagues. The work she does is as beautiful as she is. Because of her outstanding performance, she was named a technical skills expert by the company in 2005 and was named an outstanding Communist Party member and an advanced individual of the company for three consecutive years.

A woman as capable as any man, writing her youth in a budgeting role. There are many others like Zhang Jing who, like men, set aside family ties and race across every corner of the country; like men, they write extraordinary lives in ordinary positions; and like men, they create an even more brilliant tomorrow for the company's development.
