　　Li Xiangguo of the Zhuzong Ready-Mixed Concrete Center is no big shot; in fact, he is just an ordinary yet outstanding concrete pump operator. Ordinary, because in his 13 years at the Zhuzong Ready-Mixed Concrete Center, he rose from pump operator to pump team leader and then to discipline leader, one solid step at a time, working diligently and enduring hardship on the front line of production and construction. Outstanding, because in addition to being named an enterprise production model worker many times, he was also named a Beijing Municipal Patriotism and Merit Model, twice named an Advanced Producer of the Zhuzong Group, three times named a Youth Shock Team Member of the Zhuzong Group, named a Beijing Municipal Model Worker in 2010, and in 2011 named one of the “Top Ten Zhuzong Touching Figures.” These brilliant honors form a unique landscape within the corporate culture of the Zhuzong Ready-Mixed Concrete Center…… Through 13 years of wind, frost, rain and snow, Li Xiangguo has never had a single road traffic safety accident, nor a single construction site safety accident.

　　Li Xiangguo is not only praised within the company as a man of both skill and character; outside the company he is likewise a “best operator” who earns everyone's thumbs-up! I still remember the construction site of the Hemu Jiayuan Hospital on Jiangtai Road, where the center's dispatcher arranged for a 32-meter pump truck to carry out the pumping task. Upon arriving at the site, because there were more than a dozen large trees nearby, setting up the pump in the gaps between the trees was extremely difficult. The pump operator was at a loss and packed up and left. This infuriated the site project manager, who immediately called the center's dispatch office, blazing with anger and letting loose a torrent of crude words; the dispatcher could not hold out…… Hearing the news, Li Xiangguo immediately drove the 32-meter pump truck to the site. This middle-aged man in his forties said not a word; he skillfully and steadily set up the pump, sat calmly and intently at the control console, gently extended the boom, slowly raised the pump pipe, and gracefully delivered 150 cubic meters of concrete precisely to the construction point. The project manager was dumbfounded, saying that Master Li's work was not like work at all—it was simply an acrobatic performance!

　　Li Xiangguo, equally adept with hand and mind, is revered by his colleagues and fellow workers as a “pump truck expert.” He often instills this idea in his fellow workers and apprentices: “We must not treat the pump truck as a machine; we must treat it as a person, as a partner, as a close buddy.” During a routine inspection, he noticed an inconspicuous oil stain on the boom of a 32-meter Ishikawajima pump truck. He climbed up to examine it carefully and found that the stain was actually a long crack. He immediately reported it to the fleet dispatcher and promptly took the truck out of service for repair, averting a major accident. Most unforgettable was an evening in December 2009, when the temperature dropped to minus 15 degrees Celsius. Li Xiangguo, who had already worked 36 hours straight, had just returned from a site with the pump and had not yet sat down to eat when the night-shift dispatcher knocked on his door. It turned out that a 37-meter pump truck had returned from a site with a clogged pipe; if the pump pipe was not cleared immediately, once it froze solid, a set of pump pipes worth more than 10,000 yuan would be ruined. Without a word, Li Xiangguo took three pump operators and worked through the night to clear the pipe. By just after 5 o'clock the next morning, his “buddy” was finally cleared and stood safe and sound in the parking lot awaiting orders, while Li Xiangguo, without even taking time to rest, headed off to the Xinhualian site…
