截至今年4月，日本国土交通省对全国长度在15米以上的14.4万座桥梁的状况做了调查。结果发现，近41％（约5.8万座）的桥梁需要维修和加固，另外限制通行的危桥数量达1381座，是5年前的1.7倍，这些危桥中近半数为50年以上桥龄的老桥。
