6月30日上午，拉萨市老城区保护工程竣工仪式在大昭寺广场举行，近400人参加。拉萨市老城区保护工程于去年12月20日开工建设，经过6个多月的连续奋战，于6月30日顺利竣工。项目总投资约15亿元，主要有地下综合管线工程、电力改造工程、给排水改造工程、古城特色风貌保护和建筑节能改造工程、通讯改造工程、文物保护维修工程等。
5月13日，人民日报求证栏目刊登文章《拉萨老城“大拆大建”不实》，针对“大拆大建”网络传言，通过实地调查表明，正在进行的是拉萨老城区保护工程，以淡化老城商业功能，保护古城文物建筑。
