The construction progress of the Xianghai Bridge——an important passage connecting the eastern and western parts of Zhuhai——has attracted much attention. The reporter learned from Zhuhai Transportation Group that the project is currently overcoming difficulties and advancing at full speed, and the pile foundation construction for the Modaomen main bridge section is expected to be completed by mid-March. The Xianghai Bridge is more than 20 kilometers long. It starts in Zaobei, Xiangzhou District, runs westward through Tanzhou Town in Zhongshan City, Jinwan District and Doumen District in Zhuhai City, successively intersects with important trunk roads such as the Guangzhou-Zhuhai West Expressway and the Jiangmen-Zhuhai Expressway, and ends at Huxin Road in Doumen District. There are many waterways and farmland along the route, including some drinking water protection areas, which places high demands on environmental and water quality protection during construction.
It is understood that workers did not rest during the Spring Festival holiday, and construction of the remaining 15 pile foundations in the Modaomen Bridge section is being accelerated. The project manager expects that, at the current pace, all pile foundation construction in this section can be completed by mid-March. Because severe typhoon weather last year caused damage to the facilities under construction on the Xianghai Bridge, and before this year's flood season the project must complete the installation of steel cofferdams and the concrete pouring of pile caps, the schedule is very tight. The project manager said that this year construction will mainly focus on the lower structures of the bridge, such as pile foundations, pile caps, piers, and bent caps, as well as upper structures such as precast box girders and cast-in-place girders. Soft foundation treatment and roadbed filling must also be completed, striving to build the bridge as soon as possible to benefit the public.
