Is Line 4 Phase II Unsuitable for a "Jiangxinzhou North Station"? Nanjing Metro: Under Study

Recently, a citizen called the 12345 government service hotline to oppose the proposed “Jiangxinzhou North Station” on Nanjing Metro Line 4 Phase II. On February 25, it was learned from Nanjing Metro Construction Co., Ltd. that whether Line 4 Phase II will have a station on Jiangxinzhou remains to be further studied and determined.
Line 4 Phase II starts from Longjiang Station of Phase I, crosses the river westward, then runs west along the planned Central Avenue and Puma Road, and ends at Zhenzhuquan Station, with a total length of about 9.7 kilometers.
In November 2016, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the "Reply of the National Development and Reform Commission on the Adjustment Plan for the Second Phase Construction Plan of Nanjing Urban Rail Transit (2016-2021)." The reply mentioned deepening the study of the feasibility and necessity of setting up a station on Jiangxinzhou Island for Line 4 Phase II. As a result, the news that Line 4 Phase II may have a station on Jiangxinzhou Island sparked heated discussion among citizens.
It is understood that some citizens oppose a station on Jiangxinzhou for Line 4 Phase II on the grounds that the excavation of the foundation pit for Jiangxinzhou North Station would pass through large areas of silty fine sand layers and mucky silty clay. These soil layers have good permeability, contain confined water, and the groundwater is directly connected to the river water, with abundant water sources and an inexhaustible supply. During foundation pit excavation, once seepage occurs around the pit or at the bottom, water flow could carry fine sand particles out of the strata, causing the permeability coefficient of the strata to increase by orders of magnitude and potentially leading to risks such as water and sand inrush into the pit. In addition, foundation pit excavation may cause risks such as settlement and deformation of the Yangtze River levee.
In contrast, residents in the northern section of Jiangxinzhou are very much looking forward to Line 4 Phase II. According to staff of Nanjing Metro Construction Co., Ltd., a heavy snowfall before the Chinese New Year reduced bus service and made driving difficult, leaving residents in the northern section of Jiangxinzhou able to enter and leave the island only on foot and causing them considerable hardship. At that time, many citizens called the 12345 government service hotline to request that a Jiangxinzhou station be added to Line 4 Phase II so that the northern section of Jiangxinzhou could have metro access as soon as possible.
So, will Line 4 Phase II have a station on Jiangxinzhou or not? According to staff of Nanjing Metro Construction Co., Ltd., in accordance with the requirements of the approved second-phase construction plan adjustment, Metro Line 4 is currently further deepening the study of the feasibility and necessity of a station on Jiangxinzhou, and whether to set up a station remains to be further studied and determined.
