China's research, development and application of major high-speed rail technology packages are already among the world's most advanced. What happens when mature high-speed rail technology is applied to highway bridge construction? The reporter learned from China Railway Construction Corporation Limited that in the construction of the world-renowned Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, high-speed rail four-electrical system integration technology achieved its first cross-sector collaboration with a highway bridge.
According to Dr. Zhang Ping, deputy chief engineer of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project of the China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau and head of the system integration department, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is China's first world-class integrated transportation cluster project combining bridges, islands and tunnels. The China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau is responsible for the construction of toll collection, communications, power supply and distribution, lighting, monitoring, safety facilities, communication conduits and other works.
"Because the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is enormous in scale and its power system is complex, the types and functions of equipment used in each specialty differ, data cross between systems, and there are numerous interfaces between devices, making connections complex. Before the project started, the project department launched a program of technical research and reached a consensus with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority to transplant high-speed rail four-electrical system integration technology into the electromechanical installation works of a highway bridge for the first time," Zhang Ping said.
To organically connect the most advanced high-speed rail system integration technology with the highway electromechanical system, the project department developed and built a full-life-cycle integrated BIM (Building Information Modeling) system dedicated to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Over two years, they supplemented tens of thousands of data items to gradually improve the system.
The China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau is a systems integrator for China's high-speed rail "four-electrical" systems. It has participated in the construction of high-speed and conventional railways with an operating mileage of 28,000 km, including 8,000 km of high-speed rail, accounting for about one-third of the country's high-speed rail operating mileage, and urban rail transit operating mileage accounting for nearly 20% of the country's total operating mileage.
