These past few days, your social media feeds have likely been flooded with the 'Zen' frog-raising game Travel Frog. But for pragmatic Guangzhou residents, there's something even more noteworthy: 'Guangzhou will build 5 new metro lines and open 2 this year.'

According to the 'Guangzhou 2018 Core Project Plan Notice' published by the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Guangzhou municipal government will invest approximately 254.77 billion yuan this year in 325 projects, including infrastructure and social livelihood projects, among which are 5 new metro lines.

The 5 new lines to start construction in 2018 are: Line 5 East Extension, Line 7 Phase II, Line 10, Line 12, and Line 14 Phase II—truly a multi-line collaboration spanning 'east, south, central, Dongguan, and Conghua.' In addition, Tangxi Station, the Guangzhou section of the Shenzhen-Maoming Railway, and the Pazhou Branch of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Railway will also begin construction this year.

Come, hop on the metro or intercity rail and take a spontaneous trip!
Line 5 East Extension to Interchange with Dongguan Line 1 Phase II

The Line 5 East Extension starts at Wenchong Station of Line 5 and includes 6 stations: Shuanggang, Miaotou Road, Xiayuan, Baoying Avenue, Guangzhou Development District, and terminates at Huangpu Passenger Port Station (except for stations already in operation, all station names are tentative engineering names).

Most notably, the Line 5 East Extension will interchange with Dongguan Line 1 Phase II, bringing Guangzhou-Dongguan integrated living one step closer!

Line 7 Phase II Extends South to Panyu and Huangpu

Although Line 3 connecting Panyu and the city center has long existed, getting from Panyu to the city center means enduring the 'packed like sardines' Line 3 and a ride of nearly an hour—honestly not a great experience. The construction of Line 7 Phase II is undoubtedly good news for Panyu residents!

Line 7 Phase II extends north from the existing University Town South Station of Phase I to Huangpu District, with a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h, and includes 11 stations: Shenjing, Changzhou, Hongshengsha, Yufengwei, Dashadong, Jitang, Jiazhuang, Kefeng Road, Luogang, Shuixi, and Shuixibei.

For Panyu, not only can residents avoid the crowded Line 3 when going to downtown Guangzhou in the future, but they can also reach Nansha and Huangpu in just over 20 minutes, making a half-hour life circle spanning north and south Guangzhou within reach. For Huangpu District in the latter half of Line 7 Phase II, it will not only strengthen industrial ties with Panyu but also facilitate talent exchange with Guangzhou University Town.
Line 12: A 'Super Long Line' Through Guangzhou's Main Urban Districts to Relieve Central Area Traffic Pressure
Many residents in Baiyun and Panyu have likely experienced the fear of being dominated by Line 3 during the morning rush hour. Don't worry—Line 12 will 'save' you in the future!

Line 12 has 25 stations, 16 of which are interchange stations. The planned route passes through Chatou, Tangxi, Xinshi, Baiyun Park, Luhu, Taojin, Chigang, Guanzhou, and University Town, terminating at University Town South Station, mainly passing through Baiyun, Yuexiu, Haizhu, and Panyu districts.

Once completed, Line 12 will effectively relieve traffic pressure in the central area—mom no longer has to worry about me being squeezed into a 'human pancake' on my commute!
Line 10 to Take Over and 'Liberate' Line 3

'体育西路站' (Tiyu Xilu Station) on Line 3, located in a bustling central area, has become one of the metro stations with the highest interchange pressure. In the future, Line 10 will greatly 'liberate' Line 3 by taking over the section from Tianhe Coach Terminal to Shipaiqiao.

In other words, Line 3 will only operate from Panyu Square to Airport North, and passengers on Line 3 to the Line 3 North Extension will no longer need to interchange at Tiyu Xilu. Overall, Line 10 runs through four central districts—Tianhe, Yuexiu, Liwan, and Haizhu—making it a true 'density line' for central urban rail transit.
Line 14 Phase II to Provide Direct Access from Conghua to Guangzhou Railway Station

Line 14 Phase II, mainly located in Baiyun District, has 8 stations (excluding Jiahewanggang): Pengbian, Henan, Chuangyiyuan, Mawu, Xinshixu, Gangbei, Lejia Road, and Guangzhou Railway Station. Among them, Guangzhou Railway Station interchanges with Lines 2, 5, and 11, and Xinshixu Station interchanges with Line 12.

Since Line 14 Phase II will operate seamlessly with Phase I upon completion, Conghua residents can reach Guangzhou Railway Station without transferring, greatly enhancing rapid connections between Conghua District and the central urban area.

Intercity Rail Construction Reaches New Heights, Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Links Tighten

In addition to metro construction, to strengthen connections and transportation between Guangzhou and neighboring cities, intercity rail construction has also received attention from government departments.

Take the under-construction Pazhou Branch of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Railway as an example: it will not only relieve pressure on Guangzhou South Station and highways during peak holiday periods but also greatly reduce commuting time.

In fact, the development of urban transportation best reflects a city's strength and potential, and is one of the factors that most affects our lives and work. Looking at recent years, the hot sectors in Guangzhou's real estate market are basically distributed along metro lines, with prices only rising.
