Recently, the geological and mineral industry standard "Geological Environment Monitoring Signs," compiled by the Environmental Monitoring Institute of the China Geological Survey, has been approved and released by the Ministry of Land and Resources and will come into effect on March 1, 2018.
For many years, due to the lack of protection under relevant laws and regulations, geological environment monitoring facilities have frequently been damaged, encroached upon, or moved without authorization. In order to standardize the use of and effectively protect geological environment monitoring signs, under the leadership of the Department of Geological Environment of the Ministry of Land and Resources, and in accordance with the requirements set out in the "Measures for the Administration of Geological Environment Monitoring" that "the state protects geological environment monitoring facilities" and that "geological environment monitoring facilities shall use unified signs as required by the Ministry of Land and Resources," the Environmental Monitoring Institute fully drew on existing domestic and international standards and specifications, summarized the experience of setting up geological environment monitoring signs in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Three Gorges Reservoir area, and Shanghai, and compiled and completed the "Geological Environment Monitoring Signs" after extensively soliciting opinions from industry experts.
This standard summarizes a total of 10 types of geological environment monitoring signs and standardizes their styles, content, constituent elements, content layout, materials, and installation methods. The implementation of this standard will play a positive role in improving the management level of geological environment monitoring facilities and promoting the standardization and normalization of geological environment monitoring work.
At present, the relevant provisions of this standard have been piloted in the installation of monitoring well protection devices for the National Groundwater Monitoring Project and in ground subsidence and ground fissure monitoring in the Xiong'an New Area, with favorable responses.
