On January 16, after one year of construction, cumulative excavation of the Xiaosanxia Tunnel on the Chongqing section of the Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway has surpassed 10,000 meters, creating favorable conditions for entering main tunnel construction at an early date.
The Xiaosanxia Tunnel on the Chongqing section of the Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is located at the border between Wushan and Fengjie. With a total length of nearly 19 kilometers, it is the longest tunnel on the entire Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway. The Xiaosanxia Tunnel is a controlling project for the entire Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway, and among single-tube double-track high-speed railway tunnels designed for a speed of 350 kilometers per hour in China, it currently ranks first in length. To conquer this key controlling project at an early date, the China Railway Tunnel Group has invested a large amount of advanced equipment, and the excavation speed can now reach about 10 meters per day. Over the past year, the total excavation length of the entire Xiaosanxia Tunnel, including the No. 1 cross adit, No. 2 cross adit, and No. 1 inclined shaft, has exceeded 10,000 meters. The entire line is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in early 2021.
The Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is an important major corridor linking Chongqing with North China, East China, and Central China, and is also an important component of the Zhengzhou-Chongqing-Kunming major corridor and the Shanghai-Wuhan-Chongqing-Chengdu-Tibet corridor. After completion and opening to traffic, residents will need only 2 hours by high-speed rail from Wushan to Chongqing, only 4 hours to Zhengzhou, and 6 hours to Beijing. The completion of the Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is of great significance for Chongqing in opening up external transportation corridors.
