On January 16, it was learned from the Henan Provincial Department of Water Resources that Henan Province completed 10.5 billion yuan in water conservancy investment last year, with more than half of the funds directed to poverty-stricken areas.
Last year, Henan Province issued an investment plan of 11.344 billion yuan for water conservancy construction and actually completed 10.5 billion yuan in investment, of which 6.404 billion yuan was directed to 53 poverty-stricken counties, providing strong support for Henan Province's poverty alleviation efforts.
According to reports, the Henan Provincial Department of Water Resources has made water conservancy poverty alleviation the top priority among all its work, further tilting the arrangement of water conservancy project funds toward poverty-stricken areas, and arranging seven categories of projects in poverty-stricken areas, including flood control and disaster reduction, renewal and supporting construction of large and medium-sized irrigation districts, small-scale farmland water conservancy construction, and consolidation and upgrading of rural drinking water safety. Among them, 1.4 billion yuan was allocated to the Qianping Reservoir located in Ruyang County, with an annual investment of 1.26 billion yuan completed; a total of 629 million yuan was allocated to poverty-stricken areas for the treatment of small and medium-sized rivers; a total of 56 million yuan was allocated to poverty-stricken areas for the reinforcement of large and medium-sized dangerous reservoirs and sluices; and a total of 350 million yuan was allocated for the general levee reinforcement project on the main stream of the Huai River and the Shiguan River treatment project, involving three poverty-stricken counties: Huangchuan County, Huaibin County, and Gushi County. Most of the engineering projects directed to poverty-stricken areas have been basically completed. By the end of last year, 5.2 billion yuan in investment had been completed, and the water problems that plagued the development of poverty-stricken areas had been effectively resolved.
Last year, the construction of large-scale water conservancy projects in Henan Province progressed smoothly. The Chushandian Reservoir project completed an investment of 2.43 billion yuan and, like the Qianping Reservoir, exceeded its annual target; the reinforcement project of the Shimantan Reservoir is being accelerated, and one dangerous reservoir after another has been “restored to health,” eliminating hidden dangers in flood control and improving the capacity for water resource regulation and storage.
