The reporter learned from the Hunan Provincial Department of Transport that in 2017 Hunan accelerated the construction of "Four-Good Rural Roads," with more than 11,000 km of rural roads newly built or reconstructed. By the end of 2017, the province's total rural road mileage had exceeded 200,000 km.

Xinhuang is a key county for poverty alleviation and development in the Wuling Mountain area. To improve travel conditions for local residents, last year the county invested 241 million yuan in improving and upgrading its rural road network. In Yanjia Village, Yushi Town, a two-hour drive from the county seat, cement roads now reach every village group, and solar-powered landscape streetlights have been installed. After transport conditions improved, Liao Xiucai, who had been working elsewhere, returned to the village and led the villagers in raising free-range chickens. Using a purely ecological free-range model, they established the "Xiucai Chicken" brand.

At present, the total road mileage in the province's poverty-stricken counties has reached 110,000 km, with 100% of townships and eligible incorporated villages connected by cement or asphalt roads.
