The reporter recently learned from the Chongqing Municipal Land Resources and Housing Administration Bureau that in 2017 Chongqing strengthened basic geological surveys and achieved a number of important results, providing a geological basis for geological prospecting and basic data for industrial layout and planning adjustments.
First, the "Report on the Results of Regional Geological and Mineral Survey of the 1:50,000 Tuxiangba, Miaowan, Shuangtukan, Dashuijing, and Sanjiaoba Sheets" passed expert review. The map sheets cover a total area of 2,215 square kilometers, 11 new mineral (mineralization) occurrences were discovered, and 4 target areas for prospecting were delineated. To date, the city's coverage of 1:50,000 regional geological survey has reached 77.49%.
Second, the 1:250,000 land quality geochemical survey was completed over an area of 4,700 square kilometers, and the city's coverage of 1:250,000 land quality geochemical survey has reached 66.6%. The 1:50,000 land quality geological survey was completed over an area of 7,760 square kilometers in districts and counties including Changshou, Bishan, Qianjiang, Jiangjin, and Chengkou, and the city's coverage of 1:50,000 land quality geological survey has reached 24.3%.
Third, 12 demonstration projects for groundwater supply in karst water-deficient areas were implemented. Among them, the demonstration project in Liangzeng Township, Youyang County, completed 1 well with a water yield of 25.2 cubic meters per day, solving the drinking water difficulty of more than 200 people. Three demonstration projects in Erong, Guanzhuang, and Gaotian, Xiushan County, completed 19 wells with a water yield of 3,360 cubic meters per day, which can solve the drinking water difficulty of more than 20,000 people. The underground river water intake at Zhaijingzi, Hongchiba, Wuxi County, reached 2,156 cubic meters per day, and is expected to solve the drinking water difficulty of 20,000 people.
Fourth, a world-class dinosaur fossil group was discovered in Pu'an, Yunyang County. Reported by the Chongqing Municipal Government Information Office at a press conference and by multiple media outlets, it produced a positive social impact. A relatively complete Megatapirus fossil skeleton with completeness exceeding 90% was discovered in Yanjinggou, Wanzhou District, with high scientific research and exhibition value, filling the domestic gap of lacking a complete Megatapirus fossil skeleton.
