Once the first phase of the northern extension of Tianbei Road, soon to be under construction, is completed, it will further improve the road network structure in western Huairou District, Beijing. Residents traveling to scenic spots such as Mutianyu Great Wall and Huanghuacheng Water Great Wall will no longer need to detour through Huairou New City. Reporters learned from the Huairou District People's Congress meeting on January 10 that this year the district will focus on advancing the construction of five roads, including the first phase of the northern extension of Tianbei Road, Tonghuai Road (Huairou section), and the Second North Road of Yanqi Lake, which will not only strengthen Huairou's connection with the city sub-center but also better connect the two major functional areas of the Yanqi Lake International Conference Center and Huairou Science City.
Yu Qingge, deputy director of the Huairou Highway Sub-bureau, introduced that the first phase of the northern extension of Tianbei Road crosses both Shunyi and Huairou districts, starting from Changjin Road in Shunyi District (connected to Exit 12 of the Jingcheng Expressway) in the south and ending at the West Street of Qiaozhi Town Government in the north, with a total length of 11.956 kilometers. Among them, the Huairou section is 6.228 kilometers long, with three bridges, designed as a first-class highway, and the section passing through towns is designed as an urban secondary trunk road. This year, part of the roadbed, bridges and culverts, and other works will be completed. "After completion, it will further improve the road network structure in western Huairou, promote the economic and tourism development of towns along the route, and residents entering and leaving southwestern Huairou will no longer need to detour through Huairou New City, improving travel efficiency and alleviating traffic pressure on roads around the urban area."
In addition to projects under construction, Huairou District will also focus on advancing four other roads this year. The new construction project of Tonghuai Road (Huairou section) is designed to start at the Dahanzhuang Interchange of the Jingcheng Expressway, cross National Highway 101 and the Jingcheng Railway northward, and connect with National Highway 111 in the Huaibei area, with a length of 22 kilometers. The design standard is a first-class highway, and the section within the Science City is designed as an urban cross-section. At present, the project proposal has been submitted to the Municipal Development and Reform Commission for review, and efforts will be made to complete various preliminary procedures and bidding work for the starting section (from the Jingcheng Expressway to the Beijing-Shenyang High-speed Railway section) before the end of the year.
Yu Qingge stated that this road will strengthen Huairou's longitudinal connection with the city sub-center and Shunyi and other areas, form a major east-west corridor in Huairou New City, effectively alleviate traffic pressure on National Highways 101 and 111 and traffic congestion in the old urban area, and also serve the construction of the Science City and promote rapid regional economic development.
The construction project of the Second North Road of Yanqi Lake is an important channel connecting the two major functional areas of the Yanqi Lake International Conference Center and Huairou Science City. The design starts at the Baiyachang Bridge on Fanqi Road and ends at National Highway 111, with a total length of 3.44 kilometers. At present, the design plan has been submitted to the Municipal Planning Commission for review, and efforts will be made to complete the approval of the design plan in 2018.
Regarding national highways, the reconstruction project of the outbound road of National Highway 111 (Hefangkou–Tanghekou) is 26 kilometers long and designed as a first-class highway. At present, the project design plan has been approved. This year, the Huairou Highway Sub-bureau will make every effort to coordinate and handle various preliminary procedures and strive for the project to be implemented as soon as possible. "After the project is completed, it will completely eliminate the bottleneck of the outbound line of the first phase of National Highway 111, improve the traffic capacity of this section, improve the traffic environment between Huairou and Hebei Province, and promote the integrated development of transportation in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region," said Yu Qingge.
In addition, according to the "13th Five-Year Plan" Outline for Highway Maintenance and Management Development issued by the Ministry of Transport, G335 (Caishudian–City Boundary), as an important planned national highway node project, is planned to achieve basic connectivity during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. The road is designed as a second-class highway, with a Huairou section of 3.9 kilometers, and the design plan has been approved. The completion of this project will play an important role in driving economic development in northwestern Huairou and connecting with the Chicheng area of Hebei Province.
