Located in the southwest of Gansu Province, Linxia is the seat of the Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture Party Committee and Government, more than 110 kilometers from the provincial capital Lanzhou, and falls within the Lanzhou one-hour economic circle. Historically, Linxia was an important town on the southern route of the ancient Silk Road, known as the "tea-horse market", the "dry dock" of the west, and the "mighty town of Hehuang". Today, with the policy guidance of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the large-scale development of the western region, Linxia is accelerating its infrastructure construction. In September 2017, a Bauer BG 30 rotary drilling rig began intensive construction on the Gansu Shuangda Expressway (Linxia section). The Gansu Shuangda Expressway---Linxia Project is the abbreviation for the construction of the first-class highway from Shuangcheng to Dalijia (Gansu-Qinghai border) in Linxia. This expressway is an important part of the S34 Gansu Linxia to Qinghai Xunhua Highway in the Gansu Provincial Highway Network Plan, and is also a major provincial construction project identified by Gansu Province. Due to the special geographical environment of the west, and Linxia being surrounded by mountains with complex geological structures, the project site is close to the Xiahe River, and the geology is mainly large cobbles and boulders, which places demands on the equipment used by the construction party. Considering the difficulty of the project, the construction party, Dingxi Yunfei Engineering Machinery Equipment Leasing Co., Ltd., ultimately chose a Bauer BG 30 rotary drilling rig for the operation.
At the construction site of the Gansu Shuangda Expressway---Linxia Project, this Bauer BG 30 rotary drilling rig, which won the "China Construction Machinery Annual Product TOP 50 (2017)" award, fully demonstrated its technical advantages. In the process of deep rock socketing, it operated stably throughout, ensuring the smooth progress of the project. According to feedback from on-site personnel, under the hard and complex conditions of 0-9 meters of cobble layer, 9-15 meters of slate layer, and 15-35 meters of sandy gravel-soil mixed layer, the BG 30 can complete a pile with a diameter of 1.5 meters and a depth of 35 meters in an average of 4 hours. Its good hole-forming performance met the expectations of the construction party. The Bauer BG 30 rotary drilling rig (BT 80 base carrier) is equipped with a 280 kW Caterpillar engine and a single-layer main winch with a single-line effective pull of 265 kN. The rotary head torque is 30 tonne-meters, the maximum drilling diameter is 2.5 meters, the maximum drilling depth is 54 meters with 3 drill pipes, more than 70 meters with 4 drill pipes, and 77 meters with 5 friction drill pipes. It adopts Bauer's patented pull-out comprehensive service platform, allowing maintenance personnel to inspect and maintain the equipment in a safer environment. With an energy-saving design, fuel consumption is greatly reduced. Its innovative design and safety concept won two major awards in 2016: the VDBUM and Euro Test awards. It has added a drilling assistance system that can achieve automatic pressure application, automatic single and double-direction soil unloading, and casing extraction, etc., and can meet high-load and long-term operation with low failure rate, high rock-socketing efficiency, and low wear. At present, the construction of this project has been successfully completed. The excellent performance of the Bauer BG 30 rotary drilling rig at the Linxia site provided reliable guarantees for the project, created benefits for users, and also gained recognition for Bauer equipment in the local market, thereby "drilling" open the Gansu market.
