As the shield machine broke through the left-line section between Gaofeng Station and Longma Road Station of Chengdu Metro Line 5, all shield tunneling sections of Phase II of Chengdu Rail Transit Line 5 have been completed.
It is understood that, as the backbone line running through north and south Chengdu, the Phase I and Phase II project of Line 5 starts from Xindu District in the north and extends to Tianfu New Area in the south, with a total length of about 49 km, including 42.25 km of underground line, 6.391 km of elevated line and 0.3 km of transition section. A total of 41 stations are set, including 36 underground stations and 5 elevated stations. The project runs from south to north through the main urban area and the planned new area, and successively passes under the Jinjiang River, the Ring Expressway, high-speed railways, existing operating metro lines, etc., imposing extremely high requirements on construction technology and involving great construction difficulty. Among them, the Phase II project runs from Qilong Station (exclusive) to Huilong Depot, with a total length of about 14 km. Located in Tianfu New Area and Shuangliu District, it is an important line for realizing the "southern expansion" and optimizing the urban spatial structure. Once completed, it will greatly ease the passenger transport pressure on Metro Line 1.
Up to now, the main structures of 34 stations in the Phase I and Phase II project of Line 5 have been capped, all shield machines have been lowered into the shafts, and cumulative tunneling has reached 78% of the total.
